I've just been for a test drive in a new WRX. It was great, and I'm pretty sure I've decided that is the car I'd like. I was thinking about the STi, but I just don't think I need the extra speed. Anyway, to my question. I like both the black and the silver - I've seen both 'in the metal'. I slightly prefer the black, but what concerns me is the maintenance of it. I think the gold flecks could be a problem if I needed to touch the paint up. What are people's thoughts on this?

Sorry if this seems quite a trivial problem to have, but it would be nice to hear some views!

Have a new Black MY03 WRX that I picked up last weekend.

Beleive everything you hear about Black being a nightmare colour to keep clean, mine has only done 500 odd miles and it's filthy!

Had silver car before and really wanted black and kind of ignored the fact that the Scoob is meant to have really weak paint.

I guess silver is less likely to show scratches and chips but I prefer the black colour with it's gold 'light' effect.

Just my opinion.

yep! the paint really is that poor!
I opted for silver and I'm glad I did because it didn't take long before my front bumper was begining to resemble the moon's surface
whatever colour you go for though mate, I'm more than sure you'll love it to bits and will never regret getting one!!

i would say go for silver!!!

IMHO it looks alot better in the sunlight, it doesnt get ashot (good for trackdays), its not as common (i see more black than silver and personally, i think black is slowly going out of fashion (as red did)

silver cars will never die, its a good colour and loved by all...

and mines silver...

My intial reaction to the title of this thread was BLACK, but it's a good point about keeping it in good cond.

They still look good in silver, and silver doesnt show up stone chips or scratches!

Verdict: Silver.

That's funny, I was just looking at the brochure, and there's a small picture of a white one. It looks nice. I'll probably go for silver though I think. I know there are loads of silver cars out there, but it looks good. A bit more subtle too, which is a good thing IMO.

I've heard from the dealers that if you damage a scooby with silver paint you normally have to respray the whole car in order for the paint to blend properly. Whether this is true or not is another thing, but this isn't the first time I've heard this.

Black - there are quite enough silver cars on the road. Just take care of it.

Oh and get the STI

Black, says the man with the Catalunya...

Dammit man, it's a Rally car (nearly) - they're supposed to be dirty, scratched, and like mine at the moment, have bits of bodywork falling off.

And many thanks to the kindly old man that made that last 'mod' to the rear of my car. It was missing the authentic dents, until then...

Anyway. go Black. Looks great..

Don't matter about the colour but definetely get the STI as after a week of running it in you will be well used to the performance of the snail-like WRX and want more

I agree with Phill it's rubbish that you need to respray the whole car had my silver MY02 repaired what you do need to do with any metalic paint is have the whole panel sprayed the hard bit is to get it looking as bad as the factory finnish !!! mine looks a bit patchy in sunlight because the base coat is so thin go for silver though you don't have to wash it for weeks !!

I understand the comments about the STi, but the WRX seems like plenty. I'm sure if I tried the STi I'd change my mind, but there you go. There's always the PPP kit if I get bored, but if I was getting bored with the speed it would probably mean I was heading for a prison sentence, rather than the Scooby dealer!

Actually, I rather like the look of the white one now

Strange when I went from a UK turbo to a classic RA it was like some one added 50% more power . The car was and still is in some ways intimidating but you do get use to it. Must say if I havent driven it for a few days then its takes a few minutes to readjust. Just enough time for the oil temp to reach 90C . Did make an Evo not live upto expectations though.

How much is Armourfend? What about the protective waxes available, like Zymol's Titanium?

It cost me around £350.00 to do my MY00. That included the bonnet, front spoiler, front lip, wing ends, wing mirrors and rear bumper, money well spent IMHO
Protective waxes will not help you against stone chips!!!!
