I've seen other threads on here about people 'playing' with other cars, so why was mine moved?

Ok fair enough, but I'm not the first to talk about this sort of thing in the general section, I don't remember seeing any others moved to the 'muppet show'.

Still, you are the moderator and you have to do what you have to do.

No hard feelings

Cool

As a forum moderator I back up what PTMW has said and altohugh I personally did not move the thread, I certainly would have done for the reason stated.

Try "Racing On A Public Highway" as being the cause here - something that Scoobynet does not condone or wish to glamourise - to which you have openly admitted doing

The fact that it has been moved to the "Muppet Forum" speaks for itself

None taken - thick skinned

I'm not actually the forum moderator here, so I have no rights of move/edit/delete, but if I were then all these types of post would get removed.

Keep it for the track where I KNOW that a lightly modded MY99 UK Wagon can, & has, taken R33GTS/R & R34GTR (inc V-Spec)

Ok, my 'politically correct' comment was a bit OTT, but the point I was trying to get across was that if you don't agree with this sort of thing, don't feel the need to comment and judge me. It all hapened on my private test track anyway....

A lot can be dependant on the topic title, the wording of the topic, the content of the post, the reaction of the users who post up afterwards etc as to whether a topic remains in General forum, gets moved, edited or deleted.

List the threads & if they need moving or editing or deleting then each one will be treated on merrit (or otherwise).

One in mind is the "Twisty Thread - was it a Polo" going on. Difference between the two is that although he may have been exceeding the speed limit, at no point is reference made to his actual speed. Whereas Drexel quite openly says 100mph. The twisty driver might never have reached 60 as there are certainly some stretches of country road where that is impossible even for a scoob - though I would personally guess that as unlikley here.

If scoobynet does not condone it why was the thread still on scoobynet.... or does the muppet forum not count because it has a special name...??? surly the thread should be deleted...??? there is some strange logic going on here...??

You are right IMHO - it should go, but I can't personally do it.

Muppets is probably more of a "social comment"

no logic/consistency

Cool

Line 'em up & they will be dealt with...

I don't personally visit every single thread on the bbs, so prob like other mods miss things that should be picked up on.

We need YOUR help, so if you see something that is dodgy/potentially dodgy or whatever, RTM it to us. In that way it highlights the issue, allows the mods to understand from a user's perspective (not mod heaven ) & hopefully allows us to have a much broader & balanced approach to the whole issue of moderation...

SO HELP US - its your bbs as well

We need a moderators charter , I think thre was talk of one. To allow consistency as people read things in different ways. Each case should be taken on merit and a RTM shouldnt automatically mean locking, editing or moving .

I think the moderation in general (all forums) is pretty good but I have recently seen a bit of inconsistency between moderation and moderators.

Keep this up, I can see the way it's going if it carries on

Anyhow, watch this space sometime in the coming future (no time scale yet folks, sorry) regarding guidelines explaining moderation. These things take time, but are being actively worked on now. The effort is not insignificant as everyone wants to get these things right.

As for a representative, why do you think you need one????? If you have any issues, just mail, or use the RTM button! Believe it or not, opinions and ability to make mistakes is not surgically removed when you become a moderator. We care a lot about the community and feel immense pride in it - and if people have a valid point, we will listen.

I hate to not be specific, but "watch this space" regarding the guidelines.
cheers,
Nick.

RTM's don't automatically mean editing/locking/moving & TBH there is probably a lot of poo that gets through that if the Rules, Policies and Disclaimers were adhered to wouldn't.

It is a matter of balance. The rules/regs/what is expected, are written out on the Rules, Policies & Disclaimers (hereinafter known as RP&D ) so the mods could apply the letter of the law on every thread & every post. A couple of reasons against that are namely that it takes a lot of time to actually do all that moderating (30 mods against 9000 users ) and to do so would not necessarily be in the interests of the community & SN, because excessive moderation can be seen as draconian and repressive, leading to people not wishing to post here. That's not what this bbs is all about.

Therefore the RP&D are applied reasonably liberally and it is generally the worst offenders (threads/posts mainly) that have action taken against them. We listen to all comments on a particular subject & the user has the right to complain if they think hard done by. The mod in question has to be able to justify their actions/inactions.

The '100mph' thread is actually a question about variations in performance, although it could/should have been phrased differently, and there was little need to mention the speed. Unfortunately, it was immediately replied to by someone who misread the speed as being some sort of challenge, and consequently wrote about his own inapropriate driving.

I firmly belive that if Scoobynet is to maintain it's credibility, it must be seen as not condoning the mindless behaviour of the few. However, why anyone would think such a thread belonged with the muppets I'll never know. That takes a special kind of lodic

It should just have been deleted, along with any other similar topics.

Josh

OMG, look what I've started. I'm sorry for being an evil, scum of the earth, immature one of 'the mindless few'

Look, I didn't buy my Scoob to potter about at 20 mph. I bought it to enjoy it. Most of the time enjoying it means blasting around the b-roads on my own, when my wife and kids arn't in the car. But sometimes it also means playing with other performance cars. I ONLY do this occasionally, and only when it's safe to do so. So do Josh L and the rest of the politically correct band on this board never give it a bit of 'lead foot' when not on the track? Please. If that's true then sell your Scoob and buy a bloody deisel Vectra, and a Westie for the track.

Don't worry about what you've started! It was moderated for whatever reason & you (on further thought) accepted that. It was other members that jumped in with slightly differing points that has furthered this thread. It is NOT aimed at you.

I daresay, myself included, that the majority of us are not saints when it comes to driving on the Queen's Highway, but the difference is that is not acceptable to write about it (or self-incriminate or publicise or boast or glorify) on this BBS.

I've always thought about either doing a thesis or a book based on what appears & happens on SN
