i had a bump today in my impreza sport 98.

i hit a nissan micra square on from his behind. his damage is pretty minimal, a bumper and thats all.

my inidicators have both popped out, not broke though. the bumper has a one inch crack in it and the bumper has crumpled on the sides.

i really dont want to put it through the insurance and the other guy says he is happy to take cash from me.

i am taking mine to a dealer tommorrow. how much is he gonna want? and if i take it to some side street garage, will they be able to repair it?

A good bodyshop should be able to plastic weld the crack in the bumper, but then you'd have to get it resprayed aswell, that alone can be pricey!

I would without a shadow of a doubt go to a bodyshop as opposed to Subaru!!

Get quotes from both, oh and when the street bodyshop give you a quote ask them what they'd do it for cash!

Just had my rear bumper replaced after someone ploughed in the back of me.
Cost me £850 as they weren't insured!
Sorry to hear about your knock though.

Eeyore

It is possible to do quite comprehensive repairs on an abs bumper, there is plastic repair etc available from Halfords and the like. I would be surprised if you need to buy a new bumper cover. You need to check whether the steel frame which bolts onto the car and supports the bumper cover has been distorted. That is also pretty strong and if the bump was not too bad you should be ok.

Hope this helps

Les.
