Does anybody else have trouble with their windscreen washers freezing up all the time. I have almost 100% concentrate in my resevoir but still no good.

Anyboby else have problems with this or is it just me?

 

is it that cold in Aberdeen??? OMG!
i think that every concetrate has different properties, just go to halfords and check on the label of each concetrate the freezing temperature.
In scandinavia they have a concetrate that freezees in -40 Celcius. maybe we should import this!

 

Can you cable tie the hose for the washers to a hose for the coolant? The heat from the coolant hose then warms up the water to the washers I believe. Worth a try

Had the same thing myself this morning. You could try tie wrapping a piece of ducting a few inches above the downpipe and running it across to the washer jets/pipes. Won't stop them freezing up but they'll thaw out pretty quick. Easy to fit and to remove when the weather gets a bit better.

 

I'm sure someone suggested putting cheap Vodka in the bottle as that will not freeze at less than -40 or somewhere near there.

 

Project for our DIY electronics fans; get some neon ones, so they have a power supply to them, and remove the neon and replace it with some sort of heater element?

This is nozzles only - strap 'em to a coolant hose for the main tubing.

 

Just hope you don't pop flames from your exhaust as you wash the screen

 

Make sure you check that the antifreeze/washer fluid your putting in is NOT already diluted, many garages sell it in this fashion(if you ask me its a bloody con).You need to read the label carefully when buying it.
In many cases it is pre-mixed and therefore you are not putting in neat fluid. I was in -20 Degrees C 3 weeks ago and was only running 50/50 water/fluid mix and it did not freeze, even on the windscreen when sprayed.

Yeah, I was in -16 last weekend (Japan Alps), and the std summer stuff started to give up, but it was almost empty so filled with -30 spec and that did the job (had to spend more dosh for wipers that wouldn't freeze solid too ).

It only snowed 3 feet in 20hrs after we got to our hotel

 

Have you tried pressing the defrost screen button?
I know that when my washer jets are frozen, pressing this button makes them work again (possably heated?)
Did it this morning whilst they were covered in snow, lovely (green snow that is )

Get an Octavia! Rumour is, that some German manufacturer spent lots of money researching and developing a heating element that stopped the screenwash freezing, and Skoda just routed the pipes round the warm bits!

Edited to say that my washer jets have not frozen yet on the Tavia, they were forever frozen on my Scoob

I was going to ask about this as I put 100% concentrate in the tank by mistake (instructions were in German) and was going to siphon it out - every time I wash the windscreen it stinks in the cabin...and the stuff is flammable.

Is it safe to leave the undiluted stuff in the reservoir or should I take it out and put in some diluted (as the bottle suggests).
