I need some advice on this.

UK cars are 10,000 miles or 1 year service intervals.

Benelux cars are 7,500 miles or 6 months service intervals.

My my03 is coming from Belgium, what service interval do i follow ??. if i do 10k / 1 year will this void my warranty ??.

I know I have to register the car with IM for years 2 & 3 but apparently the importer helps me with this.

The owners manual and service book will these be in english or french/flemish/german.

maybe should of looked into this further before jumping in with both feet.

I'm in the same situation as you, except mine is from Holland. In short, YES, you do have to service the car every 7500 miles in order to keep the warranty intact. Apart from the extra expense I'm quite happy to get it serviced at that interval to be honest - it always feels a little sharper the first couple of thousand thereafter.

The reason for this is that although you have to register with IM, ultimately your warranty is still a Benelux one. Hope this helps.

I have a MY02 imported from belgium, and was somewhat confused about the service intervals. My owners manual said 7500miles or 12months, I am now in receipt of a letter from subaru benelux confirming that the intervals for my car are 7500miles or twelve months. They indicated to me on the telephone that benelux MY03 subaru's are now 10000miles or twelve months. Why don't you contact your supplying dealer and ask for confirmation in writting of the MY03 service interval. But to be honest in an engine with so much power per unit of capacity i am reluctant to even leave the oil in for 7500miles.

Did you get your my02 through an agent or direct as I've also got an my02 but not had a sniff of a letter since regarding 7500miles/12months I'm on 7500 miles/6months. I'm happy with the 7500 miles but get caught on the 6 month span

I'd heard that euro my03s would be 10k miles/12 months to match UK but you should get a piece of paper saying this or it's in your service book...

I bought my car through Keyrings cars (who i can highly recommend), they contacted the benelux dealer with my service query. The dealer sent a copy letter to me from subaru benelux confirming the 12months/ 7500miles. It wasn't an automatic process.

Im keyring to, so i will wait to see what comes with the car and ask for confirmation.

I dont plan to do that many miles around 8k a year so i didnt want to do a full service every 6 months, but will definatly do an oil change at 6months / 5k.

 

Just had a verbal from the benelux dealer. it is 9500miles or 12 months on the MY03. I didnt ask about the older cars sorry.

not to sure why it is 9500 and not 10,000,

any way i will still plan to have the oil changed halfway through 5k miles at least. is this something i could do myself ???. ie draining the oil changing the filter and refilling. will this void the warranty, as if that is all it is why pay the garage to do it.

I suspect its 9500 as it is probably 15,000 km interval.

Since October 2002 all cars sold in the EC have to have a minimum of 2 years manufacturers warranty. I have been told (unconfirmed) that Subaru, like Toyota and Honda, have gone to a full 3 years manufacturer.

This means that you can have the car serviced at any "recognised" garage. "Recognised garage" normally means a VAT registered one. They must still use genuine OE parts and approved fluids but will probably be considerably cheaper than a franchise dealer.

In the past, UK and imported cars only had one year manufacturer warranty. You could have the car serviced at a non franchise garage in the first year but as years 2 and 3 were a warranty issued by Subaru UK (or the selling EC importer) then they could insist that you have the car serviced at a franchise dealer to maintain the warranty that they were giving.

Check with the selling dealer to clarify your exact situation.

 

pbee/apple: I got my MY02 in July and the service book (although not clear) does state 7500 mile service interval. There is also a 12 month requirement. Thus if you only do 7500 or less miles per year then only an annual service is required. If you do 15000 miles/year then 2 are required.

<Opens can of worms> as the car is serviced at 1000miles, then the next service is not due until 8500 miles on the clock, discuss.

don't think you'll ge away with that one about the 8.5K service

it works from date of first registration (on V5 - not with IM) so is either 6/12 months (depending which schedule you're on) from that date or having covered 7.5K miles from that date

I think you're getting mixed up with the miles/times - can you point out what page / where the info is in the service book (white cover issued by Subaru Benelux?)

I understand about a service every 6months or 7500 miles but not only once every 12 months if you just do 7500 miles pa.

The 1000 mile service is not a requirement for Subaru's coming from Benelux.

The service book says that the car should be serviced in accordance to the Impreza Owners handbook which gives the service interval of 7500 miles / 12 months.

The following appears in service book on the page wher the dealer stamps for each service

"PERIODIC Maintenance Service Record - This is to certify the work specified in the maintenance schedule of the owner's manual has been completed. Each type of maintenance must be done at the specified time or distance"

It is confusing as the service book has a space for the servicing at 6 months interval as well, however it also states in the Owners manual that the car should be serviced at 6 months intervals if it is driven under "Severe driving conditions"

I had MY02 serviced at 1000 miles and I will get it done again at 7500 miles.

Date of servicing should start from when the car was sold in benelux, as it is a benelux warranty.
