Had a look at a my00 Forester S Turbo today to replace my old Impreza, and a few questions came up

Since they're basically Imprezas underneath is the service schedule the same? 85000km (50000 mile?) service is due and I'm wondering if it's a big one? Also wondering about the standard fit alloy wheels - are tyre sizes as for the Impreza? If so I can put my set of F1s to good use on it since it's summer tyres are looking a bit marginal. Finally, any experiences of tuning would be nice to hear...

Same service schedule as pre 2002 Impreza every 7,500, I think

Most Impreza add-ons fit the engine. You can even swap ECUs from Impreza into Forester to get 215bhp although the turbo is smaller.

Forester STi goes on sale officially in Europe from October.

 

The Forester tyre is 215/60 x 16 and wheels are 6.5 x 16.
Servicing is every 7,500 miles (12,000 Km). The big service in the UK is at 45,000 miles so I guess it should have been done by now.
At 85,000 KM it is due a minor service.
Tuning can be done but isn't really promoted in the UK apart from exhausts.
Most parts are Impreza based. The major difference is the ECU and turbo. A remap or swap to the JDM Forester ECU should get you an easy 70 BHP increase.

if the insurance premium isn't a problem, get the Forester PPP. richard meaden of evo loved it on the mag's 'fast fleet' forester. 17" anthracite speedlines on 50 section pzeros, ECU tweak adds 25% peak power, suspension, zorst and brakes upgrade.

Hi guys I haven't posted before but I've been lurking since December when I bought my Forester turbo.Regarding the mucky bits underneath will an impreza rear anti-roll bar fit? I believe the Forester one is a bit limp and the sturdier impreza one will kill some of the body roll/understeer. I'm too cheap to buy an aftermarket one if a s/hand impreza one will do the job.

Yep STI Forester 13mm sway bar fits.

I think the Forester Prodrive PPP is only available for pre MY OO cars.

 

Thought the rear ARB was already 13mm?
A 20mm one fits on no problem but I still can't get oversteer. I MUST try harder

Did I hear someone mention the Whiteline ALK - they fit on the Forester after all.

Also, remember, the variable steering rack does not help the feel of things. Quite a few owners here have been known to swap it out for Impreza gear (and the JDM Cross Sports has one OE).

Thanks folks! I'm going to give this one a miss - it was looking rather tired, lots of paint chips when looking up close, interior damaged, two holes in the boot lid where the Subaru badge was etc. etc. Pity, because it was very appealing in black mica with smart grey alloys. Problem is there aren't too many around over here, and a new one costs over £35k. The search continues!

used to live in Rushden quite a few years ago. When are they going to get that flippin bypass done? ( Not that I don't want to visit anymore but it would enormously speed up my trip to Bedford.)

Zax - Hi. If I lived in Finland I reckon the Forester would be very high on my very useful cars list.

Technically (for a second)while I'm changing the sway bar is it worth replacing the links with some tougher ones or is that a sort of 'last resort' mod?

 

58GT, go have a look at the forester forum on www.nasioc.com and also www.4ester.net for tuning info. There is virtually no tuning info as far as the engine goes for UK foresters other than a recent thread on here (do a search on 'forester'), but suspension is pretty much the same except that UK foresters have self levelling rear suspension which the US ones don't. Wheel offsets are different too, so impreza wheels might not fit.

 

One of the great things about Foresters is the big wheel/tyre combos you can run. Some guys here run the GDA STi stuff on their cars and the handling is nothing short of awesome.
