Whats a PUK code on a mobile
Wife has just given her old mobile to her sister. When she turned it on it was fine after the pin and lock code were entered. A bit later she was scrolling through the menu to change the ring tone and the phone locked with a message saying enter PUK code - any ideas what this is and is it on the phone or the sim card.
Her SIm card will not now work in her old phone.

I believe it is the "unblock" code. My phone is "blocked" if the PIN number is entered wrongly three times i.e. it is an anti theft measure. The PUK code is required to unblock it, it may have come in the documentation when you bought the phone or may be available from whoever supplied the phone.

From: R.I.P Piphead, at least you are home now :(
I had this happen to me with my work phone, the day I got it, as my bro thought it would be 'clever' to guess my pin code
I had to phone the supplier of the phone to get the PUK code 6 digit number IIRC
it was a company phone so it was only the named person on the contract who could get this number
Just phone your provider, give them the details of it, and they will give you the PUK code, be warned tho, I was asked for the account password !

We deal with these @ work quite often. As said - the PUK should only be given (by the phone operator) to the account holder or registered owner of the phone.
Whoever gave you the phone will 9 times out of 10 have to ring the network provider concerned and a) get the PUK code and b) get the registration transferred.
