Hello

I'm moving house, and am stretching my budget a little bit.

As such, I'm looking for a bank account (savings or current) that will let me split the account into "pots", with one total. So that I can place regular amounts into each "pot". So that I can have one for my extremely expensive Supra insurance etc...

A few bank were advertising this a while ago, but I can't find any now!

Thanks for your help.

Steve.

Woolwich is good and fair - IMHO IF go for the less sophisticated customer, giving you now what they will take away tenfold in 6 months. I believe that their small print actually states 'we have got you by the nads' (This may not be entirely true - I just hate the Hafilax cos they turned me down for a mortgage for 12k about 9 years ago )

Well I would have recommended Zurich Bank but they went **** up, which is why we're currently transferring our joint account to IF (cahoot refused us because we didn't want to pay our salaries into the account )

I'm just remortgaging with IF. Hope I'm doing the right thing.

They don't have jars for car insurance, bills etc. They have jars for current account, savings, mortgage, loan and credit card which can all be linked together.

What's this about taking money away in 6 months?

Hi Carl

Thank you for the information. As fas as I can tell, if does not let you set up "jars".

The Woolwich does.

Thanks,

Steve.

The First Direct Smartmorgage doesn't have "jars" as such it just lets you offset your savings/bank accounts.

It is a good mortgage and well I should say that since I work for them

Amanda, couldn't you just have multiple savings accounts and link them all together?

Would like to know, as I'm with FD & am thinking about switching to SmartMortgage when my introductory period with my current lender runs out...

You could but it won't save you any money. To be honest you are best just to keep everything in your Bank Account. I'll mail you offline as I probably shouldn't really be giving out some of this info!

Barclays Offset (Woolwich is owned by Barclays) lets you have up to 12 jars plus your current account.

Last month I saved 42.85 interest off my mortgage. We have eevn set up accounts for the kids so that their savings offset our mortgage at 4.75%. We have increased their monthly by a fiver to offset their loss of interest.
