What colour are your wheel arches?

Just managed to clean the Rally GB mud from the wheel arches properly as the pressure washer has been poorly.
When I was jet washing them there was a blackish coating that was coming off and the cars colour showed through.
Stop the jet wash as I couldn't tell whether it was caked on dirt or a covering of some sort.
Should the wheel arches be the same colour as the car or have a black film covering?
