Whilst cleaning my car I noticed a sort of roughness on the lower panels, esp. the doors, and around the front arches. Its like dravel and dirt has almost got stuck into the paint, some of it will come out with atar remover, but some seems impossible to shift. Its the same story over the rear bumper.

i live in a very rural area, and the car gets "pebbledashed2 all the time.

Anyone else experienced this, and what did they do about it?

Try a clay bar.

You can get a build up of crud embedded on the surface, but the bar should help.

You'll find it's ground up bits of brake pad material. A clay bar is definitely the way to get it off (look around the swissol website until you find it).

Cool

I have the same problem with mine, fine metallic particles in the paint that can only be shifted by the clay bar. When I first got it the whole car was covered in black and orange spots after three months!!!! of weekends polishing etc it was back to white.
My clay bar was about £3 from Halfords.

Si James

A clay bar ala paint rubber will sort the problem easily and quickly with minimal effort.

If you need one email me at mark@swissol.com or waxwizard@blueyonder.co.uk.

Well, after 10,000 miles my STI7 had a load of brake dust down the sides of the car.

Clay Bar removed all the crud very easily.

I'd forgotten how much gloss my car had...

Pretty sure Halfords don't sell them any more.

oops, got my knickers in a twist...

3M's brand is called something slightly different to clay-magic. Perfect-It, I think.

A clay bar is something a little like a block of play-dogh or putty. You lubricate the surface of the car with water, or a wetting agent, and run the bar along the paintwork. At first it judders along, but as you remove the particles it moves along more smoothly.

Mark Underwood (details as posted above) should be able to help you out.
