I put a "fully refundable" deposit against a P1 back in October of 1999.

I have since decided against buying the P1.

I requested the dealer refund my deposit at the beginning of last week. The dealer responded with the following:

"You'll have to wait until we get a buyer before we can return the deposit"

Is this a complete load of Sh*t or what !!!

Crooked, dishonest, un-professional wan**ers !(Before anyone asks yes I am very cross)

Anyone out there ever had a similar experience ??

This dos'nt sound like the Pangbourne I know, always been happy with them.

However if it was a 'refundable deposit' and there was no verbal or written contract detailing any special conditions they have no choice but to pay back the deposit. If they don;t I would suggest a threat of court action and the fact they will be very short of sales and service in future as no one on here will go anywhere near them again, myself included.

 

You will have to excuse my ignorance here but;

I always thought that a deposit meant that you were putting money down as a guarantee that you were going to buy - If I was selling a car privately and somebody said that they wanted it and gave a deposit - I would take that car off the market and if they changed their mind they would lose their deposit.

Why should a dealer who has reserved a P1 for you release that reservation, risk losing the money on the sale and give you your money back

Join a few others on the board I'm afraid. You should go to a Berks/Bucks meet for other comments.

How they won dealer of the year three times running is beyond me and a number of others.

Other dealers are as bad though. I once cancelled a Scooby five months before delivery. Even before they had been able to order it from IM. They adopted the same attiude. When I asked to delay it they said no problem, we have a number of other people for your car!!!.

I had a P1 on order from Bell & Colvill. I put down a £500 deposit. I later changed my mind (OK, I was talked out of it...) and told them about it when I was in to drop my car off for a service. They gave me a cheque for the full amount there and then. No quibbles.

I think it may depend in part on when you cancel, though I cancelled after they had had their allocation confirmed.

I you a have a written statement of a refundable deposit then contact the General Manager and if you have no joy then contact IM. After that then Watchdog, Auto express etc. but I wouldnt think it would go that far.

When I put my deposit down the sales guy told me that it was non-refunable but the car I had was a cancelation and the previous had his money back as 15 people were waiting for scoobys at the time and waiting lists were 12 months (ah the good old days ).

Got back my deposit through the post first thing this morning !

Do you think they read the BBS ?

 

...Maybe they just found another buyer for the overpriced STI you didn't want!

 

based on the fact you posted last night after the last post was available, i would suggest the BBS had nowt to do with it.

Unless it was hand delivered of course.

I know my dealer reads this BBS, they even showed me a print out of my engine post. Then again they do offer very good service so they obviously take our opinions into account. I think it should be compulsary that the dealers read this BBS for OUR thoughts on them.
