I do an 80 mile round journey all 70 mph bar 4 to 5 miles in a MY96 UK Turbo, if I really lean it out I get 28 MPG, but average approx. 24/25 ish. I think its a smaller tank in the MY96 so only take £32 of fuel, normal unleaded that is.

just a quick question, I am considering a UK spec Imprezza turbo as two of my friends have Subaru's and I find that they are one of the nicest cars to drive..........ever!

My concern is that my mates sti V5 is a b*tch on fuel, and my mate with the UK spec can only ever see 220miles to a tank (£40).

I do 80miles a day (mainly motorway), and was wondering what other people were getting for their £40. I appreciate that NORMALLY UK spec's are more economical, but I will be happy to hear from any of you UK spec or not.

I have an imported 99MY GT AWD Turbo Impreza, and i drive about 60 miles a day from stevenage to hemel, and i can get up to and over 300 miles out of a tank.

you just have to learn how to control the boost(if i lead foot i reckon i would get about 150-220 outta a tank)

 

24 to the gallon if I'm good, 18 if I'm very bad...

Agree with whats been said, if you keep the car out of the boost whilst driving around town etc then you get better economy, if you rag the car from cold it will drink fuel, if you keep it sensible then it will not (and warm the engine up before opening up the car).
Running SUL will give you better economy too with gains of up to 30-40 miles extra out of a tank (and smoother running)

Super unleaded fuel, your mate with the STi5 should (hopefully ) know about it as STi's need a MINIMUM of Super unleaded fuel (97ron) and octane booster is very advisable (Jap imports need 100 ron fuel as thats what they are mapped for).

If your worried about fuel economy, don't buy a Subaru.

Seriously though I have an Sti and £40 for 220 miles sounds about right plus a few extra quid for octane booster for jap import cars. I only use my car at the weekends. To be honest if I was doing 80 miles a day, I'd buy a diesel as your probably looking at about £80 a week on fuel just for commuting in a Scoob then another £80 for your fun drives when mpg goes out the window.

 

Sorry mate, having a remedial moment! he does run super (Esso only) proven to be tha best fuel as it has the least cleaning agents (pure-as-the-driven-snow), he also uses Wynn's octain booster as this is supposed to be one of the best!

i'm confused as to why so many people 'big-up' so to speak Shell Optimax! the V5 used to stutter at full chat using this stuff and has forever more concerned me of its quality, i'm also unsure of Optimax as its 5-7day shelf life doesn't inspire much confidence.

In terms of SUL wouldn't that make the economy worse as it has a faster burn rate? RUL in a UK spec was my interpretation of many peoples viewpoint as the most cost effective ways to run a SIT.

 

Its because it has a better burn rate that SUL gives a smoother and better drive (plus better economy where applicable ).
You need to speak with one of the technical people about exactly why but unleaded wont give you the same performance/refinement as SUL.
(should say that ive always run my MY00 PPP'd turbo on SUL )

Depends on the driving style obviously but I have just put in £30 of Optimax and after a good run up and back from Oldham (About 130 miles) I`m still 1/3rd of a tank left.
I find that stop start and short runs in this cold weather means the highest fuel consumption, I dont think its too bad though i was expecting a lot worse.

"Normal" use in my '98 UK turbo with full decat and ITG, sees about 230 miles to a tankfull. Most of that is done around town.
On holiday in it, I could see up to 280 miles per tankfull, and that was mostly on French autoroutes and N roads..........and I wasn't hanging about either.

I have an MY02 WRX and usually get about 280-295 miles from motorway driving (cruising near to the uk speed limit of course

Round and about town (10 mile drive to work each day and back) it drops to around 240 miles per tank. (24mpg average over last 4,000 miles covering both m'way and town)

I had guaged all this against my mates Honda Integra Type-r (the other car choice!) and he see's around 330 to £30 on Motorway based driving!
