Scott, used to run Toyo's on a previous car and found them to be excellent. I am thinking of getting them for the scoob, where/who did you get your price from.

Just found Toyo's 205/40 x 17 for sale on-line at £77 delivered and fitted.

Any got any views on them.

I had T1s's put on my RB5WR about 1000 miles ago and to date have found them excellent. They offered far better grip than the previous PZero's I had and break away progrssively in the wet, only by accident mind

I'd check the size being offered though, as from memory the set I had put on were 215/40 x17, the PZeros being 205/45 x17

Just ordered a set of (oddball) 165/60/14s from them for the wife's Ka.....

The "free fitting" is no longer offered, although Kwik-Fit & Budget are both happy to fit/valve/balance tyres sourced from 3rd party. They quoted me £7 and £6 per tyre respectively.

£77 is still a superb price (same as Falkens in that size!), although you really do want 205/45/17s (or 215/40/17s)......call them and ask them how much (they'll quote on stuff not listed on their website).

If you do decide to go for it.....just so you know:-

Assume std 205/50/16 give you perfect 70mph when you see 70mph on your speedo.
205/45/17 is 0.8% bigger ~ true speed 70.6mph when 70mph indicated.
215/40/17 is 1.2% smaller ~ true speed 69.1mph
205/40/17 is 2.5% smaller ~ true speed 68.2mph

So it's not <I> that </I> big a difference in gearing (you'll accelerate quicker!)

Bear in mind that your gearing drops approx 2% during the life of a tyre (assuming you start with 8mm and chuck it at 2mm)....so a new 205/40/17 will give almost the same gearing as a fully worn 205/50/16.

When fully worn you'll only be doing 66.8mph at an indicated 70mph though.

There's a local tyre fitter to me that will fit valve and balance for £5 so the lack of free fitting is no loss.

I just need to decide what wheels to get now.

Anyone know what offset is best of either a 7 or 7.5 inch wide alloy, I've heard it's ET45 or maybe ET38

 

Scoobies are weird for offset:-

As far as I understand....

Std offset is 52.5mm, but you can go down to 48mm without too much problem.

ET45 is probably pushing it, and ET38 looks out of the question.

 

Would you lot choose Toyos or Goodyear Eagle F1s if they were being offered at the same price?

Toyos are tops all round
have had them for 3 months not only do they perform well in all conditions (so far)they have a very smart looking tread nearly always park my 99 wagon with front wheels toe out

 

Guy's just got this from the SIDC FAQ :

OFFSET - One important point to bear in mind when shopping for new wheels is that the recommended offset (the distance between centre of the rim and the mounting face) for Impreza wheels is unusually high, at between 52 and 55mm depending on the model. Using more common, smaller, offsets will increase the track (width) of the car, which may cause the tyres to foul the arches, and will have an adverse effect on handling (by increasing the leverage of uneven roads and cornering forces on the suspension and steering components). One knowledgeable wheel retailer claims that anywhere from 45-55mm is fine (even going so far as to say that 55mm is excessive!), whilst a Subaru dealer insists that 55mm is essential and anything else wrecks the handling. It's probably worth pointing out that the standard wheels are 52.5mm offset, and the Speedline Competition 2, sold by Prodrive through your Subaru dealership, is 48mm!

 

I think youll find that the Superleggeras are a 48mm offset and theres plenty of Scoobys rolling about on those without adverse handling problems.
