Question

Ok - I've gone done it - bye bye MY99 hello MY02.

Now I've never had a brand spanking new car and I hear theres something called "running in" which means you dont get much fun for the first 1k miles.

Can anyone point me at a resource with a running in guide?

Thanks

T.

Resource???
What do you need to know? You keep it below 4000rpm for the first 1000 miles and then after the 1000 mile oil change, you can put your foot down a little or a lot

Good luck and enjoy!

good choice of car!
the handbook has a bit in it.but basically dont labour it in the wrong gear.dont go over 4000rpm and then progress gently until it loosens up.Suggest you take it easy to first service.( i dont start to drive it over 3000 rpm until the engines warmed up )
there is a school of thought that says grollicks just get in and hoof it engines can take it....but i wouldnt subscribe to that.
Its like making love to a woman at first you stand and admire it ,then you see what it feels like , if you like what you see and feel you progress slowly gradually increasing the pace, as she loosens up you can move more quickly... or so swisss tony says.

Use "SEARCH" for "running" and you will get quite a few threads including

this one and this one and another one and this and finally this one!

This is thedefinitive thread IMHO, and not just because I contributed

Ultimately the better you treat your new car now, the better it will repay you in the future. Be patient.

What colour is it Trumble ?
Stick to the guidelines in the handbook (stated above) and you will be okay. Its frustrating though trying to keep it below 4000 revs for 1000 miles.
And remember what's been said on here many times before; "Shiny side up"
