I am still running in my MY01 and was wondering how much extra power I can expect after I can cross the magic 4000 rpm.

Its getting frustrating changing gear everytime the needle approaches the limit

Don't know how many miles you've got on the clock, but not a good idea to belt it when you get to 1000m. I increased the revs allowed gradualy between 750 & 1500. You will notice big improvements in performance from 4000rpm.

Also motor is noticably faster with a few '000 on the clock. i've now done 10k
and it's really sweet.

You get used to it though, which is why I'll soon be adding a full Decat & Link.

 

For the first 1000 miles (and 1000 mile service) its not just the rev you need to keep at below 4000rpm.

1. Do not let the engine sit at the same rpm for a long period of time. eg. vary you speed on a motorway.

2. Do not accelerate hard upto 4000rpm and then change gear. This will create more damage than the high revs.

My experience is for MY00 rather than MY01, so may be different, but, I found that there is not a whole lot of difference above 4,000 rpm (4-5000 being much the same as between 3-4000, and engine sounding less than happy much above this), it does make overtaking a whole lot easier though as you are not having to watch the rev counter, and no longer drop off boost between gears.

 

I made sure I was careful staying below 4k when running my MY00 in. Apart from a little pop with a TVR in Bracknell that pulled out in front of me. See ya

My dealer told me that there is different oil in the car from new. So best to wait and have that changed before you boot it.

I did 1500 mile in six days with mine, so I didn't have to wait that long.

And lets be honest below 4k on the motorway is 105 MPH.

Looking at a plot from Powerstation last week at just below 3000 RPM you will be getting peak BHP. You will notice more Torque when you finially get above 4000 RPM.

I`ve found that there is a lot more above 4k. It`s a pretty ordinary motor below 3k from then on the turbo has effect and it all starts to work.
I agree with the comment of increasing your rev limit gradually beyond 1000mls. after all 999mls - 4k, 1001mls - 7k sounds a bit silly!

My experience is with a MY00.

Be aware that at 4000 rpm the turbo is "up to speed" so don't expect that lovely turbo whine to continue to rise when you go above 4000.
