Has anyone fitted the door protection strips and had them colour coded on a MY99 or similar?
Would anyone be kind to post a picture?
I've been told by my local bodyshop that they don't advise on getting them painted. Has anyone else had this advice or anyone had any problems after having them colour coded?
I am having the sills, rear bumper bits, door mirrors etc colour coded and wondered if I should get the door protection strips done at the same time. Now I am unsure about the door strips?

 

I've got some Side Protection Strips which I haven't got round to putting on the car

I have heard some people mention that you can colour code these but when I spoke to Cheam Motors, they advised against it (they didn't think the paint would stick long term).

Still undecided what to do 'cos I don't really like them in black (got a DBM)....

I've seen plenty with colour coded strips that looked fine, even a few P1's

If you don't mind me asking, what sort of price have you been quoted to colour code your car? mail me if you want.

I don't mind showing what I have been quoted on the board:

£190 + vat for door mirrors, side sills and rear bumper bits but not the side protection strips.

I am getting a few more quotes from a few contacts but the above price was from my local Subaru dealer.

I'm not sure whether to get the side strips done or not!?!

 

My local garage quoted me £250+vat and paint

I thought that was a bit excessive, still, they also quoted me £648+vat for a primed Prodrive spoiler when every where else seems to charge £500+vat

And I bought the car from them 4 months ago, thought they would have done me a bit of a deal

 

I think that colour coding the strips defeats the purpose of them. they have saved me numerous times from the dreaded "shopping trolly" and if they were colour coded this would have resulted in a respray.

Have a look at my MY99 DBM without colour coding. I think they look great?

 

I have them on my P1.
They look as if they were on from manufacture. Dealer did mine painted an fitted for £250. If you do a search for side protection strips, you will find a picture.

 

my dealer in belgium ,(its an import) advised against painting them as they are flexible and getting paint to adhere reliably is not easy and as they flex so the opportunit to flake can occur. so i agree with above painting them kinda defeasts the object.
now if someone pigmented the plastic that would be cool and wouldn't flake

I have just had the side protection strips painted and fitted for £148inc on my P1.Seeing as the strips only cost £45inc your dealer has charged you over £200 to paint and fit I would being having a quiet word with them

I managed to get a quote of just under £130 from a highly regarded car body shop!!

This includes painting the sills, the mirrors and the rear bumper skirts. And they do all the necessary work to ensure that the paint does not flake.

Also they quoted around £40 to do the side protection strips!!!

I am going to get the mirrors, sills, skirts done first and then see what the car looks like, then decide on what to do with the side strips.

I must say I was nearly bowled over when I got the price and I was also shown an example of their work which I was impressed with.

Anyway my car is booked in for 2 weeks time, so my car will be colour coded for a fraction of the cost I thought I would be paying!!!

 

I have painted side strips on my P1 - 150 notes sprayed and fitted, well worth it.

Unfortunately many many miles from Kent.

I would suggest you ask around for reputable car body shops in your area and see if they will give you a quote similar to mine.

I have a few contacts where I live so I thought I may be able to get a price cheaper than the official Subaru price and I was right, but I didn't think I would get such a good price as I did!

I will post once I have my car done and how well I think they have done. Then if all goes well, I will post the name and contact number of the company, if I am allowed by the moderators?

Just a note to say that P1 side strips are a different material (plastic) to the 4 door strips (rubber). Which makes the P1 strips much easier to paint.

I have had my strips coded a year ago - no probs on a 4 door, look good. Costs was about £80 inc. cost of strips.

Unfortunately body shop not around anymore

Hi

Had my sills, rubbing strips, etc colour coded on purchase in March 2000 (in silver). This was done by my Subaru dealer. No problems with the paint since then.
