Don't have a 'before' but here's an 'after'

I believe the closer the rads are the more efficient the air flow is through them, so don't shy away from keeping them close

I don't think it is, if you are referring to Andy's old one, then you might have problems fitting it in the standard location.

Should fit in front of the bulkhead though where the current chargecooler rad is, there's loads of room.

its too wide to fit in front of the bulkhead, by about 40mm or so, so it will have to go behind it.

...which means moving the rad back about 15-20mm, but then the aircon rad will still only be an inch in front of the main rad then, is this enough?

cheers
ian

p.s. is there a fuse to disconnect the standard chargecooler pump?

On my legacy, which has aircon, the aircon rad is right up against the main rad.

In front of the bulkhead ?? Where the f**k are you putting it. It should go at the front of the car. Lehacies/Imprezas are slightly different at the front, but i dont think it should be a problem swapping the AC rad between them. Ive seen both, and the impreza rad does look a lot more efficient.
The chargecooler pump can be unplugged inside the pass side inner guard. Not sure about the fuses, although I imagine there should be one somewhere.

I meant the front bulkhead that sits in front of the radiator, rather than the passenger compartment bulkhead.

oh yeah, bulkhead...lol meant below the slam panel.

the new rad is massive compared to the old, i'll take some piccies when i get the old one out in a bit. im just going out to remove the plastic inner arch to get to the plug then. will remove old pump to save it corroding while not in use.

nice one andy

i removed the old system before, including the pump etc. will fit the new lot tomorrow.

i will have to move the main water radiator back about 15-20mm, as otherwise, there is no room for the bottom hose connection. when done, this will mean the cores are say 20mm apart.

took the legacy charge rad out...knew it was small, but when out, looks even worse!

will take some piccies as i do things tomorrow

cheers
ian

p.s. which is negative and positive on the new water pump andy? the blue or the black wire? im guessing black is neg, but you never know these days

If you have a gap, put some ducting between them to stop the air leaking out in between, this is probably better then right up close as the air has a chance to "regroup" so to speak.

some thin plastic sheet ought to to the trick, along with some gaffer tape and tie-wraps.
