Just to make you feel better if you've had a bad one......

I'm currently in the middle of major building work going on at my gaff at the moment....what should've been a 8 week project is nearing it's 17th combination of bad weather, contractors letting us down.....etc...

My lady and my 2 boys have for the last 2 weeks been living down at her mums due to us having 1 room downstairs in which to reside... 1 x toaster... 1 x microwave.... 1 x kettle... due to no kitchen, no downstairs running water, cooker etc...I'm sure you get the picture....

Then, the new double (ish) garage I'm having built which should also have been completed 3 weeks ago is still a week or so away

So.... I sell cars....

I currently have 4 beauts in at the moment....

1 x Escort Cosworth
1 x Subaru WRX
1 x EVO 5
1 X UK Subaru

All these cars are totally immaculate....but....have I had some timewasters this weekend....

9 couple's in total....

6 test drives.... and all the feed back from them has been..."what's the insurance like mate" (****...they ain't checked yet ) "OK I'm happy with it mate so what's your best price ?" I tell them...they then reply " Oh right great....I'll let you know then " !!!! OR after giving them your best price they then decide to say "Will you take that in p/x ?" they then proceed to want above retail price for their car after wanting yours for **** all !!!!

Oh and the people who say "yep, best one I've seen, deffo want it....I'll put mine up for sale and get back to you if it goes " HELLO !!!

I'm thinking nowadays that I'm one in a very rare breed......

I enquire....

I get an idea of price....

I meet up with the owner....

I agree a price....

I fecking pay the man and own the motor

Is this not how business should be done ?

And do you know the best thing....people think buying and selling motors is a piece of cake....loadsa money to be made etc....

Well.....Joe public ain't a piece of cake, neither is selling a car... EVEN when you have the best one at the best price !

So.....now I've got all that of my hairless chest PLEASE do not e-mail me, phone me, text me, visit me etc....unless you have a pretty good idea that we're gonna do a deal !

If it's a sunny day and stuck for something to do then go to the park, feed the ducks, seaside etc.... but don't decide to come and visit a dealer to test drive a motor you only ever dream about owning !!!

I thankyou

I don't have a clue about the house but I know that the cars you're selling are quality and at a fair price. loads of to55ers out there but I'm sure you'll shift those beauts soon.......probably all in the same week.

Some of us DREAM of having the chance to play in the cars youve got - like that red escort cossie, but Id never ask for a test drive - cos then Id WANT IT, and you wouldnt give me 14k for my scoob.. Id end up re-mortgaging my house.

Nice to hear from you Chris. When's the next sing song at that lakeside pub? I cant remember what it was called...the Fisherman?

C'mon Chris, you should know by now your cars are worth 10% below bottom book, have all been written off at some time and all trade in are mint, FSH etc etc and 10%over top book

It's the same for us Techies mate, the customer always knows what's wrong with the car, why should we know any better, we only go to college and on training course's to learn how to make brew's! When we service cars, all we do is wipe oil on the seat and steering wheel, stamp the book, then joy ride it round town.... then there's the " it's only done it since you serviced it" grrr

Bob

PS, sorry to hear you bad news Chelle

Look on the bright side some people look for excuses to get rid of the wife and kids for a day or two...

Take it easy... Lifes too short...

Hi Chris,
I also have endured the harsh realities of buying and selling high performance sports cars, even though it has only been a hobby for me. I started when the RS Cosworths were the hottest thing around in about 1993, and went on to own/sell 52 examples. The Subarus and Evos then became the next milestone, and with that i started selling these. The Subarus didnt seem to sell as good as the Evos so i concentrated on the Mitsy. I have probably owned/sold about 10 Evos. Then 4 weeks ago i made the biggest blunder in the history of big blunders, i accepted a Bankers draft from a guy i had no reason to suspect of fowl play. Its a long story but the outcome is the cheque was totally false and my Evo 6 TOMMI MAKINEN with 4000 miles is now a stolen vehicle. My life seems to be upside down for the moment, so take solice in this story and see that we all seem to have bad weekends from time to time, some worse than others. Take extra care with all prospective customers/visitors to your home and remember this lesson which has cost me so dearly.Regards, SIMON.

Exactly Ian.....

Ironically I started dealing in cars in 1984 in the classics.... Stag's E-Types....then the exotica...until the 1989/90 bubble burst....so it's not that I don't understand the game it just seems of late there seems to be more and more messers and methinks I opt out for good

Question

LOL at Moles dad, but I don't think the latest guidelines actually state any heights do they - it's left down to your own 'judgement' and what is 'reasonably practical and safe'. But are trestles and boards safe at nearly 2m high - not on my site

Mellow - cheer up m8 - you are lucky - you have 4 cars to enjoy - I have none at the moment !!
But yeah - 17 weeks is a bit much(the weather is a feeble excuse). I could have built you a whole new house in that time
