I know I know, everyone on here has probably got newer/better/lower suspension and better tyres, but my car in the wet just slides round bends/islands as though its on ice!!

But in the dry weather its a better story!!

So are my tires crap, or is it the crap Mcrae Suspension, or is it just the crap roads in Cheshire???

Tell me its the roads!!

The tyres are the only things that are in contact with the road. It's the tyres

I'm not a Scoob owner, but I'd guess at Geomety. Try getting some proper 4 wheel alignment done at somewhere like Demon Tweeks. About 70 quid-ish.
Tyres could also be a factor.

Geometry can do this becuase in the dry your tyres are working well and the grip envelope is much larger so you won;t notice it being unsettled unless you are going very fast. It might show up as a tendency to squeel at slower speeds, or feel a bit dull on corner entry.
In the wet the tyres are much more reliant on the tyres being controlled properly by the suspension, the grip envelope is much smaller so if the geometry is pointing the tyres the worng way then you going to be loosing grip much earlier than expected.
(but tyres can also be the main reason)

On my old MY98 the RE10 tyres when about 50% through their life expectancy became sh1te in the wet. On current RB5WR P-Zero's weren't too clever so had geometry checked and felt a little better. Then weather changed and grip in the wet became st1te again. So bought some Toyo T1s's and had geometry re-checked and have not looked back since

Bite the bullet and get your geometry checked by experts and buy some Toyo's or Bridgestone's at the same time - handling will improve immensely

I use Bridgestone SO2's on my MY00 and its rock solid in the wet, (and they're part worn).

Try toyos just run in a new set on my MY99 turbo wagon and went out purposely in torrential rain last week to test em awsome somone had previously shod it with avons which break away with out any warning in the wet I havent yet found the limit with the toyos wet or dry

 

Got naff Michelin's on at the mo. They slide round wet roundabouts like a well greased eel dipped in oil and then put on a skid pan.

17" 205x45 and
17" 215x40 give almost exactly the same, if you have a check in the wheels, tyres, brakes section if you want the precise figures.

But toyo don't make the t1-s in the correct size for the rb5 p-zero or falken the only options for that size (i reluctantly stuck to the p-zero ).

I assume you got a different tyre size but won't that screw up the speedo reading (rolling radius now larger) ??

 

I posted this a while back, but I'll post again...
If you're putting Toyo T1S's on the car, make sure you regularly check the inside walls and shoulders, especially if you've done more than 15K in them. I still had 4mm tread on the fronts, but the walls had started to collapse on both tyres. just as well I had a puncture. I spoke to toyo tech support (I had done about 24K on them) and (a) they were gobsmacked that I'd done that mileage (mostly motorway, but still...) and (b) said that this was a known feature of the tyres on scoobs (also some BMW's as well).
It's mainly down to the "hard" compound (it's got a wear rating about 240 ish, compared to F1's / SO2's which are about 160 (could be wrong on the exact numbers here).

some one has sugested geting the geromerty set up at demon tweeks i have had a couple of cars set up there and have no problem with there work ,but make sure that you have complte day to spare and take a packed lunch !

Fast in & fast out doesnt work..Understeer and then it feels like its on ice.

Best get back to the driver school coz a WRX handles so well...what you describe can only be due to the input of the driver.
Too much of on peddle or not enough....
Too much turn on the wheel or not enough...
Either or both will greatly unsettle your car.

I think 15mph going round an island is slow enough, and I think I know if I'm going too fast into a corner!!

You don't mention if the car is understeering or oversteering or both, you just say sliding as though on ice so I assume you mean understeer?

As you are obviously so sure you could not be driving differently to reduce this issue , the first of the usual suspects to pull in are:

-: Tyres and Geometry. :-

Toyo T1S are good, IMHO, but I found they tended to encourage powersliding, wet and dry, as they were progressive on the limit but brake away reasonably soon (205's on 16"). SO2's allow faster cornering and encourage more smooth, less slidey driving style, but are still fairly progressive.

Bump steer removal made a big improvement to my car's handling and balance, so I would recommend having it done if you are getting your geometry checked anyway.
