I was at Cheam Motors on Friday, showing off my leather and nubuck interior, when I was shown a car that was at the back of the workshop!

I was told that it was the San Remo Edition, created by Cheam Motors.

It looked stunning....

MY01 4-door in Rally Blue
17" P1 Gold Alloys (18" at extra cost)
Colour Coded Morette Headlight Conversion
Colour Coded Front Under Spoiler
Colour Coded Rear Under Spoiler
Colour Coded Side Skirt Spats
Colour Coded Rear STI5 Spoiler
Steering Column Mounted Boost Gauge
Clear Side Indicators and Reflectors
Prodrive WR Backbox
San Remo Interior Mats
San Remo External Badges

All for £24,495!!

Personally I prefer Silver to the Rally Blue, but I was told that the Sam Remo is a package for any car and not limited to to one body style!!

So you can put the extra bits on to either the 4 door or the 5 door in any colour!!

I was very tempted, but my car owes me too much at the moment!!!

Might be worth a look if you want the MY01, but don't want to do the modifying after it leaves the showroom!

Cheers
Andy

PS - No connection, just use Cheam Motors for servicing!

Isn't that effectively the Pug 206 rally car then?

Cool

Interesting

I thought I saw this as a limited edition somewhere else but found out that it was another limited edition via an importer.

I don't know if it is an "official" edition such as a UK300 but the spec adds up to something pretty good:

Subaru Impreza WRX 4 Door Saloon "Excel" specification (Limited Build Model),
Dark Mica Blue Metallic,
Anthracite Leather,
Sports Bucket Seats,
18" P1 Alloys,
240 bhp Upgrade,
Quickshift Gearbox,
Lowered Suspension,
Electric Glass Sunroof,
CD Player,
available now,

and the price...

£18,895 !!!!!!

I can't say what the lowered suspension is, but for those who are intersted in importing, this is an absolute bargain. I'll try and find out more.

Not quite, but nearly!!!

There was a sense of deja vu when I saw the car though!! Looked a lot like your's, but the under bumper stuff was fully colour coded, and the wheels a little smaller!

Sounds like Cheam's should be called the Cannes edition. All mods bar the backbox are for looks not performance, and for the same price as a UK300? No way.

Brendan, but remember, the UK300 is £25K without any performance changes at all, not even an uprated exhaust! It is just opver £26K with the PPP included.

I'd be more interested in how the 240bhp was achieved!

If the PPP isn't released on cars other than a UK300, then surely it's an aftermarket product, such as a Superchip, etc!

If that's the case, you've invalidated your warrenty before you drive it away from them!!

Just a thought!

Andy

I would also like to ask quite a few more questions especially since it is cheaper than the standard WRX in the list!

You can find it on this link

This is something that Cheam have been working on for sometime now. They realised long ago that the looks of the new car weren't to everyone's taste (putting it mildly). I shall be popping down this afternoon to have a good look AFAIK it isn't an 'official' special edition, just something that Cheam have put together knowing that a great many of its customers would probably end up doing something similar to their MY01s anyway.

Personally I think the cheam ltd edition is dear at £24,495. The UK300 is £24,995 with 1" bigger wheels, alcantara interior, the difference between the wheel size is probably around £500, so the same price. A back box is £350, Alcantara cost much more.

Wouldn't buy either, as the 'excel' edition shows the same spec is available elsewhere for much less money (ie EU import). Remember just because the PPP isn't available to non-UK300 drivers in the UK doesn't mean that other EU countries can't buy it yet....

OK, OK, so I made a small error. Everyone can do it once in a while (eh Jeffrey?)

Still think it's a tart's car

John Beckingham at Cheam Motors has sent me some pictures of the new car. Here's a taster for you:

I thought my UK300 was overpriced, and then I saw this. Sorry Cheam, nice to see an effort, but someone has been to the same school of pricing as Subaru UK's Marketing director.

WR Blue WRX 20750 max to pay for std car
17" wheels 300 sell old rims
Morrettes 500
Indicators 80
Colour Coding 150
Skirts 200
Boost Gauge 100
Rear Spoiler 550
Backbox 300
Mats 70

Total £23000

Plus the car is not a true limited edition. To charge £500 quid less than a UK300 !! with the Alcantara Interior (which is the best in an Scooby yet) and proper 18" wheels.

Maybe if you get a £1500 overallowance on your trade in it would be worth it. It does need 18 inch wheels to carry off the bodykit. How much more are they ?

Jonathan,

I did a quick tot up, using prices from the Subaru website, and it came to about £24,000. That means about £500 for someone to put all your new toys on your car!

Being a tart, this car is perfect for me!!

Fair point Jonathan - but it's about choice. If you want the UK300 go for it - the styling is not to everyone's taste. The Cheam car is more of a starting point, than an end point (look at what Dave and Carolyn T-S have spent) - it's up to you how much you want to spend. Cheam have already said that they are happy to do the car in any colour with any combination of wheels (and I'm sure 18" ones if you wanted them) I've seen the car in the flesh and it looks very good - it carries off the 17" wheels better than any other MY01 I've seen, although Leda and 18" wheels would undoubtedly improve it further (as Leda would also improve the UK300).

I know that Cheam have put considerable time and effort into this project over the last 4 or 5 months to get it to this stage. They are in the business of selling cars so why should they sell at cost? If you want to do it all yourself, then you can (and probably cheaper), but if you just want to buy 'off the shelf' then the San Remo makes a lot of sense.

I would seriously prefer one over a UK300.

Chris

I'm not saying its not a nice car. Personally for the money I would still go for the UK300. When I bought the UK300 I went through a styling exercise similar to Cheam.

For £500 less than the UK300 you are still short changed. Whilst I do prefer Cheams rear spoiler, I prefer the UK300 headlights. The lower spoiler add on look too angular and out of keeping with the car to me. Yes the car has a boost gauge and WR oval !! back box, but that the only additions, yet it lacks the nicer interior and 18" wheels.

No one has yet answered how much extra Cheam are charging for 18" ?

Andy

I take your point re adding up prices on the Subaru UK web site, however for all accessories you should get 10% discount, and a new WRX for 20750 max inc metallic. So I stand by my £23,000 max for a car to that spec. As a limited edition it will only be recognised by Cheam and worth no more than a customer selecting their own individually chosen parts.

Again I'd say its a nice car to a nice ish spec. Not my ideal cup of tea, but my UK300 isnt either. And as with the UK300 overpriced.

Would Cheam underwrite the car for £21,000 in seven months time with 8,000 miles on the clock ?. I realise most people are not as stupid as me, and keep their car for 2/3 years. But incase you have made a mistake moving to the MY01 at least you have a get out clause, or maybe you will want to change to the STI early next year.

I still would applaud Cheam for being so adventurous and producing the car. I wish other dealers would use their imagination as well.
