Got a"little one" on the way(future Scooby nut) !!! & wondered if any of u can recommend good"Recaro's" for Junior

i personally thought for the money the maxicosy was better than the recaro one, imho.

For new borns you can't go wrong with Britax. For kids 3-4 years upwards the best seats are from Maxi-cosi especially the Rodi model which as well as being a booster seat has a detachable back rest. Most reviews do not rate the Recaro seat, style over safety.

 

Thanx 4 the two replies but i wasn't specificaly looking just to fit a Recaro type seat,i used the word"Recaro"as a bit of a pun for putting Junior in race seat!! Silly me

Anyhow,any advice on any type & make of Baby car seat is what i was seeking.

We bought a Mamas and Papas Prima Viaggo 3 in 1 Travel system. It's a pushchair, car seat and pram(ish) all rolled into one. The car seat bit is good until the child is about 1 year old.

Fitment is easy, you get a base which is held down by the seat belt, and then the seat just clicks into it, and it clicks out again for clicking straight onto the push chaur. This is so you can take junior from car to pushchair, or pushchair to car without waking/ disturbing him/her.

We paid about £300 for the whole thing, which isnt bad for a pushchair, pram and car seat, and it looks good to.

 

We got a Mamma's and Pappa's one aswell, a Venieza or someink, it was the only car that fitted in the boot of my wifes Polo.

The car seat clips into the pram, very easy. Benjamin is still very tiny as he was 9 week premature (Still shouldn't be here till the 28th July ) but he just about fits in ok!

I'm looking at the Recaro (sell them in Halfords) when he's big enough to go in it, expensive but very good and also very adjustable. With the added "pose" factor to boot

We also went to Mama's and Papa's for his 1st seat and push chair thingy, ive just bought the little lad a Recaro Seat as he's nearly 2. I wouldn't advise it to anyone unless their kids are 2+.

Also took me ages to work out all the movement functions on the thing LOL

 

i had the recaro one (got rid of it for lack of use) and i always wondered what efect the weight of the chair would have on the kid in a frontal- because the seat is free to fly forward (within the limit of the belt) does this not cause probs for the kid? just wondered?

(Sorry to hijack the thread) - congratulations to all three of you Can't believe he was 9 weeks premature - wow, must of been tiny. I've still got about 5 weeks to go (or 2 according to my Dr!), but have been getting twinges these past couple of days, so we'll see what happens.

Back to your thread, we've bought a Britax Excel Travel System (cost about £250 with other bits added in). Car seat switches between the pram/pushchair and the car so no waking baby up just as you've got him/her to sleep.

Yeah you kidding right!! Had one of these "systems" for 1st son, borrowed from my sister with same thoughts of no waking baby, very lucky indeed if you can do it.

they wake up as cross as hell when they have been in them too long, they are that cramped in them!!

just my opinion.

 

when first born Chloe preferred to sleep in her M&P seat.. even at night... Must have felt protected and snug.. Well chuffed with our purchase...

We started off with one of those Graco Travel systems until our little boy was big enough to fit in one of the Recaro Sportline child setas. All I can say is that it is very good, and looks excellent as well. I saw it at a show where Recaro had a stand and they had it on offer, cheaper than you can get it for in Halfords, I believe they will do it mail order direct as well.

There is a child comfort pask that goes with it as well, which has a booster pad for the base and extra side pads as well, to keep the little one firmy in place.

One thing that I believe is firmly in their favour is the fact it uses the 3 point belt - the little one cannot reach down to undo it! With the other makes that have the 5 point harness system, the little ones can undo it, especailly if they want to concentrate on that for a long journey.

Also the seat allows does not have a solid backrest of polystyrene like most of the other seats so allows the child to stay cooler.

Just my thoughts,

 

Britax (as mentioned) are one of the better brands. We have one and it fits like it's welded in place. Also, it dosen't destroy the car's seat as the bottom parts are nice and smooth.

 

I had the Silver Cross 3 in 1 Travel system and I would thoroughly recommend it!

As for the Recaro, Steven has had his since he was 10 months old and I have never liked it! I too don't feel confident if I was in an accident as Steven is able to get out of it very easily and it also does not seem very stable.

Steven is now 3 and I have got a booster seat for him and he sits great in it.

I think that with all car seats, whatever the make, some fit in some cars better than others. The seats that our Recaro sits on are quite flat, and it the seat sits fine and once adam is strapped in, he cannot get out of it.

 

good point, some seatbelts are not long enough to go round some cars seats. my sister initially bought one that would not fit in her vectra!

 

I went for the Cosatto Go-Safe Sport in Momosa yellow.
It's the sweetest bucket seat ever!

Bought it when the missus was 12weeks preggers as I couldn't resist it.

Had so many comments and offers of purchase from strangers.

It is quite large though and is a struggle to get it in a Ford Ka but it fits the scoob perfectly.

It can be fitted rear facing for newborns but again, not easy being such a big chair.
Can be used for kids up to 4 I think.

I am surprised that a seat can perform safely as well for a newborn as it can for a 4 year old. Seats have official categorisation (which I can't quite remember) but I think you need 3 seats during your child's years:

1. Rear-facing 0-9 months approx

2. Forward facing 9months (usually 9kg) - 4 years

3. Booster cushion until tall enough to use an adult seat belt.

Do correct me if I am wrong.

 

We have had three car seats in Hollie's lifetime - all 3 1/2 years of it.

Started with a Britax one which matched with her pushchair etc. which I guess we used up until she was about 9 months (rear facing), then a Mothercare front facing one, and now she has a Recaro!!

It is ace and goes nicely in the Scoob Very easy to fit and she loves it. Don't think she understands that she's got a mini racing seat, but she always falls asleep in it, so it must be doing it's job

Car seats aren't cheap, and £160 compared to about £100 for other brands is a big hike, but it's worth it.

At the end of the day, it should really boil down to how much you value your childs life. I am sure any parent would pay 160-200 quid to get their child back from an accident.......

There is a common expression which is 'You only pay the difference'. I apply this to everything that I buy. For example if you were going to spend 100 quid on a car seat amd you see one that is better but is 160 quid then you are only actually paying 60 quid for that seat! (based on the fact that you were quite happy paying 100 quid). SO when you look at things in that light everything you thought was too expensive is actually affordable. But of course your childs safety is paramount and is priceless.
