From: Leeds - It was 562.4bhp@28psi on Optimax, How much closer to 600 with race fuel and a bigger turbo?

Yes I would buy... Ask why though... plenty of people on here have had their engines rebuilt... might be no3 failure, piston slap... anything...

Three points -

Who rebuilt it ?
Why was it rebuilt ?
Does it come with warranty ?

If the above check out then no problem.

Riftzone,

That is complete 8ollox.

Definitely check who rebuilt it - there seems to be a lot of companies who say they can do a good job, but very few who actually can.

I agree with Shark and Craig, find if the company are reputable and find out if it has a warranty and the warranty is transferable.

You could buy one with an unopened engine, that fails 2 months later, with no warranty.

Very true.

I think that there are two things in my mind really. The first one is that the car could have had the nuts ragged off it, so the engine rebuild could be the sign of bad things to come. Or, the previous owner was unlucky, and had something go wrong...

Another thing: do people get their engines rebuilt for reasons like uprating the internals etc, or would they just say "i've had this rod changed bla bla."

Also you would want all receipts etc that would have been done for it.

Dan

I bought a UK95 Turbo that had seen a (partial) engine re-build. The previous owner had "blown" it following a service in which the Subaru dealer kinda forgot to put in any engine oil!!! This required new short block, gaskets, clutch, turbo and a whole other list of things, total cost around £4k.

(luckily he was able to prove the damage and re-claim this through the courts).

However, it meant I purchased a car with new parts and this has, so far, ran without missing a single beat - now on 111,000 miles.

In agreement with others, the work was done by a main dealer which is a big factor.

There is a tendancy for people to dismiss the option without giving it greater consideration.

Paul

Find out actualy who rebuilt it..
If it was some one like Steve Lawson, Dave West or anyone else with an inside out knowledge of rebuilding scooby engines then no problem. If it is just a mechanic that no one has heard of on here then perhaps stay clear.

It is a STI 5? - as they seem to blow up a little more regularly.

Best wishes
Steve

I drive a Black 93WRX, some others include a STI-V and STi-IV type R.....mmmmmmmmm.

RE: The car I was looking at was an STi-Iv, it was in the for sale section here a while back....
