Can anyone tell me where this idea came from and who did it first as i remember that the Clio williams had this feature.....was the Scooby the first.....???

The Subaru rally cars have almost always had gold wheels since the late 80s/early 90s.

 

JPS Crapis in the 80's. Styled after the JPS lotus' F1 cars of the same era.

 

Not sure who did it first but the colours blue and gold compliment each other, I found this out by playing around with Paintshop pro, if you take a blue impreza and then inverse it it goes gold, can't explain it properly so maybe just try it and see for yourself.

 

Wow I had a JPS Capri Id forgoten all about that car, twas black with gold trim and wheels, now that brings back memories .

Subaru used to be sponsored by '555' (Cigarettes). I think the 555 Cigarette packets are blue and gold. Thats my theory anyway...

Ian E, your theory is correct.

555 is a ciggie brand (owned by BAT), and their brand colours are blue and gold.

 

So if thats correct.....is that why they had BAT on the number plates.....
