Question

Hi everyone,

Have been reading Scoobynet for 6 months now and have been driving an Impreza for 2 years. I am very interested in technical rather than fun/games topics and learned a lot from a few senior and technically knowledgeable members here.

Some weeks ago I noticed a sudden and more and more big presence of "Adam M" discussing very serious technical things and wonder if he could tell us a bit more about his technical background or, perhaps, qualifications.

I honestly do not wish to look like a "bad Newbie", but a number of things he says either do not make much sense (technically) or sound as other people's words played back.

No offence, but when I see possibly important tehcnical things for the rest of us being discussed, I feel one has to make sure we do not make wrong decisions based on anything less but true experience and real understanding of the issues.

I hope I will not be told to shut up and go back to reading rather than posting, but felt I would ask.

cheers

Jeremy

Jeremy you have a valid point, Adam M has access to a whole host of manuals and magazines and he spends over 14 hours per day on Scoobynet while sifting through numerous articles and posting what he reads.

This is Adam M LOL very technical guy indeed, knowledge is one thing but experience is alot more

I agree exactly with what Harj says - and that is a very valid reason never to ask Harj anything

Shaun,

you may be leaving other members slightly confused.

You left off "Maximus" at the end

Adam's a top guy who actually has managed to explain mechanical things to me. I now know what a limited slip diff does.

From chatting with him, he has a good technical knowledge and I'd tend to trust him.

Mind you, I'm a trusting sort of guy with no mechanical clue

This is bound to go to blowdog now Dave's got his teeth into, but not before Adam gets a chance to put in his twopenneth.

You're dealing with me here, Dingy, who has a mechanical knowledge slightly superior to a radish, but a stoat could probably leave me for dead...

The difference in the way diffs lock up was explained to me. I haven't a hope of explaining it again.

A good teacher interprets his wisdom for his audience, and Adam was having to speak very slowly and use small words.

I have to say that sometimes I am bowled over by the immense knowledgebase that Adam has in that thick skull of his.

He works in an industry where he is often in contact with engineering and its fundamentals. I shalln't give out too much, I am not in a position to talk in his place but suffice to say, if he says something, 9 times out of 10 its usually based on academic background. Unless when he's talking to me, coz mostly he starts talking bollox. Mostly.

Wow, dont know whether or not to be privileged or offended to be singled out.

Right will explain.

Dont have much experience myself, have learned a lot from others whose opinions I trust, such as Bob Rawle, R19KET, Firefox, Pat, sometimes moray mackenzie and also books.

The post I have made with reference to exhausts do come from personal experience.

I have been surrounded by people who are in to building engines, or having them built, and so have learned many things, on top of this, books are helpful for learning things you dont understand.

I have a degree in physics, a masters in intellectual property law, and my day to day job is working in automotive patents, mostly for ford, mazda, volvo, jaguar and aston martin (ie. ford affiliated companies).

Most stuff I do relates to emissions controls, diesel engines, vvt and lean burn stuff. Which isnt too relevant here.

I am on my second impreza now, and have owned them for two years (almost).

Have had much time for posting of late, due to needing brakes during the day from law, hence my posting.

I have been known to make mistakes, and will admit immediately. Sometimes being corrected afterwards by one of the above mentioned people, but I dont recall ever leading someone terribly astray .

I tend to post on subjects I know something about and am interested in, hence the recent 400bhp thread. I know about this, because this has been one of my goals.

Is this okay for you?

Dont understand the recent thing though, have been posting consistently since I joined!

Given the nature of the original post, I suspect that jeremyjones may infact be a friend of mine taking the pi55.

Infact I find it odd that someone uses me as a reason to make their first post.

So which one of you is it?

come on guys?

oh, and what a surprise, jeremyjones has a hotmail address! the easiest ones to fake.

Given the JJ nature, I would guess firefox

But then perhaps I am just being a mistrusting lawyer and this is a genuine post!

I doubt it!

flattered noe the less

ps. Hi harj

Thumbs down

Hello Adam M,

Finally the person I asked about kindly answered all my questions. And did he do it well. As well as his posts usually do, I will be brave to say!

Thanks for all the explanations and I hope you learn even more than you seem to know now. Must say I have not realised any of the people you mentioned except Bob Rawle were so reputable for their real knowledge and experience (apart from being very good experimenting in a pleasant amateur way). I am sorry if my curiosity disturbed anyone as it was not intended to.

I am a bit disappointed to have seen how little it took to uncover what seems to be the real nature of most contributors of this forum, but that's the way, I suppose, it has to be. Shame so many serious things are disguised in "humour and jokes".

I am sorry, but I have not had the pleasure of being Adam's friend or even meeting him ever. It is suprising how paranoid and suspicious one can get on this bbs and in the Impreza community. As from one lawyer to another Adam, I fully understand. I am also flattered to see that my simple words did what they did.

You people all have fun in your own original ways. I will keep reading as I did so far and others be important.

best wishes
Jeremy

PS. For the gentleman who asked if I was as slow with girls as I was with my first post (very funny indeed): Yes, with wife, 3 children and a mortgage I am even probably slower than that.

Harj,

I must admit, you have done well with this one.

I am proud that a man of your limited academic achievements coulod show himself to be so clever .

However I will not enter into a battle of wits with an unarmed man.

Thanks for the tease. I was having a bad day but you have cheered me up.

Jeremy,

"I am a bit disappointed to have seen how little it took to uncover what seems to be the real nature of most contributors of this forum, but that's the way, I suppose, it has to be. Shame so many serious things are disguised in "humour and jokes"."

As you can appreciate, this BBS is made up of all types of people, from all walks of life. To me thats what makes it work. Some people talk tosh ALL THE TIME (I think even after your short spell on the BBS, you may of worked that one out), some SOME OF THE TIME and others NEVER.

Realistically though did you really think that posting a thread in the "General Questions" section of an international BBS, asking "Adam M - who is Adam M?", you wouldn't get some less serious replies??? Maybe it's just me and i'm cynical!

Regards,
Shaun.

Adam I am sorry that "Us" under achievers are not upto your level of competency, but I am sure that one day we might meet in the arena of Intelectual Ambience. Where you can demonstrate your awareness and vast knoweledge of technical driving skills so we can sit back and watch in ore LOL

I think we should have our own "RoadShow Thread" where it would be alot easier to insult one another. LOL

I am sure when Einstein publsied is theory of special and general relativity, the scientific community of the time, asked him to announce it at a burn out Max Power live in order for it to attain credibility.

Actually Adam Newtons Theory of Relativity was published in Max Power last month as readers wanted to know about launching and what effects the gravitational pulls would have on their Nova's.

Don't flatter yourself!

I haven't tried to make my car look like yours at all. I have merely chosen the most functional front end to supply air and protect my FM intercooler, you pesky kids

Adam is in fact a hairdresser, however he specialises in the titillating of many afore mentioned Subaru techys hair, hence his 'Book read Knowledge'!

Do not worry though Adam like everyone else in this thread has a clinical condition, remortgageus housesus tunesus cardom!

This virus makes the carrier go completely over the top in tuning his said vehicle and in the process learn a **** load of knowledge about doing so. Now in the particular strain Adam is carrying remortgageus housesus tunesus cardom loudus mouthus it has the tendency for the carrier to spread his knowledge in a friendly but bullsh1ty way!

I like Adam, his cars a bit gay and I wouldn’t let him cut my hair but he’s a nice bloke with a small pen1s.
