changing the maincrankseal

Hi All.
I would like to know if it is easyer to take off the gearbox or to take out the engine when you need to change the crankseal at the gearbox.
HMM I have just had the engine out and now the crankseal is leaking.
I think i can take the engine out in 1,5hour.
What do you think.
