Question

I saw a picture not long ago, and I'm sure it was different to mine. Stephen30 has fitted a k&n filter from a turbo to his , but I'm sure mine's different to the earlier models.

This is Mine:

And this is a picture from the Sportsters site (PHM's i think?)

I'm just trying to work out what will fit, and what the variations are .

Can anyone help?

Andy

Hi m8

Mines the same as yours from the look of that picure. I fited mine as below with the airbox removed. It just fastened onto the end of the hose where the bolts are.

Are you not just drawing in hot air from the engine bay?

There's no engine difference 97 to 98 that I know of.
It was uprated to 125ps (ECU tweak) for the 99MY

You're pobably right. I read a similar thing in Jap Performance Mag this week. I'm going to get a box built to go round it so I only get air coming from the intake rather than the engine.

That's what I was thinking, I can't see the sensor that sits on the end of the induction pipe anywhere on PHM's

Does everyone's make an irritating hoover sound?, and also squeak when you rev it lightly?

Not sure abou the squeak but definately a hoover sound. Sounds a lot better when you rev it though.

Hello all,
mine hasn't got a sensor at all on the original system and that pipercross system is now on a shelf in the garage In its place is a BMC carbon filter which draws cold air via ducting from the scoop. BHP increased by around 12 on the RR at Well Lane. The sound is awsome too, especially when you hit the high revs!!
The ***** things was my shortcut to getting cold air to the filter - unsightly but effective!

Question

PHM,
On mine there is a pipe from the induction to the engine as well. What have you done with this? Apologies if it's obvious but can't see it in the picture.

Me too. This looks like a top mod. I recognise the black and red pipe too. I've seen Pipercross ones of them in Halfords for about £23.

Thumbs up

What I did initially was to get rid of the whole air box and the filter went straight onto the engine inlet - I then thought I'd use the forced air effect by bodging the air system so that it finished short of the filter. Where you see the filter in the picture, is directly under the scoop for cold air. The BMC filter still sits at the back but is too big to sit directly under the scoop hence it's to one side with a short feed to the scoop. I try to keep the ducting as short as possibe for better effect. I'll put some pictures on the group site - don't know how to do it on here!! After the rains stopped too!!!
