Default Folding Wing Mirror Upgrade 1998 UK Turbo

Hi All,

You can buy any colour JDM wing mirrors, and simply swap the innards with your car's, so no repainting. I also tracked down a ready made wiring loom. Go to https://aaronssubieelectronics.com/p...irror-harness/ $100 inc. postage . Buy the wiring loom and it just simply has what you need and is very neat. The plugs are all the same, the pins can be taken out and put in easily. I bought a new control switch here. https://www.amayama.com/en They do a lot more than that too.

My installation is complete and working. The wiring loom worked perfectly and once I threaded it through into the door on one side, (having figured out the quickest way to do it, which took a good while of hopeless mucking about) the other side went very quickly.

Here's what I did. To get the wires from inside the footwell to between the body and the door, I duck taped the wires to a screw driver, so the tape was covering the end of the blade, added lubrication in the form of liquid soap, and pushed it through.

To get into the door, I used the same method, but with a coat hanger opened out. First take the rubber out though, so you can press the wire upwards, gives you more room. You should make a small cut through the rubber with a sharp tool and then the wires go straight through. Plenty of lube around the bung and it slips back into the hole.

Then put the pins in matching colours to the JDM door mirror.

The control switch comes out really easily using a Stanley knife blade to lever it up from the passenger side, and again, tape the wires to a coat hanger and you can push them through the centre console and join up the with wing mirror wires. The JDM control switch is a direct replacement. Again, simply put the pins in matching colour to colour.

To switch mirror gubbins, I used a heat lamp to warm up the mirror, and then the black plastic lip was quite pliable, I used an old credit card to slip in behind and slid it around then a gentle lift and it came away. There are a couple of sticky pads.

Next there is a screw that once removed (be careful there is a spring behind it) you can pull the backing plate off. The mirror is moved by two plastic push rods that move in and out as they are turned in threaded bolt, they have a pip on the top in the cup attached to the mirror plate. These pull out from the bolts making a ratcheting noise and stay on the plate.

You can then easily take out the gubbins and switch it straight into the non folding car shells. No alterations required. You'll also need to take the pins out of the plug so you can pull the wire through, and remembering where they go put them back in when you have installed into their new home. This is easy with a thin small screw driver.

Hope this helps someone, as it took me ages to find everything. I got 2nd hand JDM wing mirrors from eBay, other places do them as well.
