Oil Pressures
Hi all
I thought it might be worth having a collection of data for people to sift through should they have a question on this topic. To that end, I wanted to start this thread and would ask that posters only reply with a copy and paste of the following, with their data added:
Model:
Year:
Engine:
Mileage:
Modifications:
Oil (grade):
Oil (manufacturer/model):
Cold idle pressure:
Hot idle pressure (80c+):
Hot high pressure (6k rpm):
Oil pump:

based on 25years or so of various vehicles I would expect hot idle (at circa 800rpm) to be more like 2.5BAR+...........your other figures seem about average
if your idle speed is lower then that may account for the low reading?

Hi Stockcar
Appreciate the input - I'm completely stock so idle at 750 and running 5W40 - doesn't use any oil, holds good temperatures (even when spirited driving) and the idle pressure seems to be within spec going off the manual. I'm not overly concerned but may switch to a 10W40 next summer and see whether that changes things. I'm hoping people post their data so we can see the differences between oil grades and the effect modifications can have on pressures. Would be great to see what you're running/getting
I suppose it might be worth adding in to the data whether people are running a stock oil pump or have gone with a modded 11/12mm.

I'm not trying to create an oil thread , I've always thought a 5/? Is a bit thin , adding into the mix a worn in engine , i am pretty sure if you put in a 10/40 oil pressures would go up , my 6.2 v8 just sort of getting bedded in , I went from a 5/30 to a 10/40 and oil pressure went up not a lot but a bit , forged engines a bit of a given or a 10/? Or a 15/? By /40 or /50
I'm keen for this not to become an oil grade thread. I use 5w40 as the car came with it - can see previous owners used 10W50 and 10W60 both of which seem way too thick for a stock engine, although I know one of them used to track it which may be the reason. 5W40 is working well at the moment but a 10W40 may yield higher pressures but it doesn't seem necessary going off the stock specs and pressures I'm seeing. The hope is that people add in their data so people can just scan through, look for similar builds/engines and check what others are getting using the varying oil grades etc.
