Default 1998 UK 2000 Turbo

Hi Guys, just joined.
currently having my scooby restored .
I believe its approx 220bhp but the jdm WRX was approx 260bhp
How do I easily get power increase without changing loads of parts as keeping car as original as possible.
Cheers

The upgrade path was typically a panel filter and exhaust. You could also go Harvey Smith Trick Up pipe too and then a remap like an ECU Labs (modified stock ECU).

If i just did an air filter and ecu would that give me much increase?
I'm very limited on car knowledge when it comes to upgrades/mods BTW

need to find out if you car is a MY98 or MY99 car (Sept 98 onwards)

MY99 onwards cars have the immobiliser outside of ecu and can be mapped, or easier still is just get the prodrive ecu its plug & play

if its an MY98 then id forget about getting it mapped and just stick an exhaust and panel filter in it & be done. its never going to be fast in todays standards anyhow without a shed load of work to it which youre not wanting to do as you want to keep it as close to OE as possible (which i agree with )

Thanks for the info. I will find that out. If MY99 will look into a remap. If MY98 think I will keep it as fully standard car. Probably not many of that age left on the road now which are OE. Saving mine from scrap heap so happy either way 😁

Improve the brakes and you will feel much more performance form the car. If it's a MY98 then its still on 2 pot calipers

In reality the difference between 220 and 260 after a few weeks won't be noticed too much

Air filter, exhaust including down pipe decat will give a good increase and the turbo will spool up a little earlier.

So, as for model I have I believe it MY98. Am I right in thinking this can be determined from VIN ?
It's JF1GC8KD3WG if that helps for people who are more knowledgable than me about this kinda thing.
cheers

10th character of the VIN gives the Model Year (MY) - in your case a "W", so vehicle is a MY98
4th Character of the Applied model code is also a "Model Year/Revision" indicator which for a UK MY98 will be an "F" (should be something like GC8FK8D)

For more information insert the full VIN (including serial number part) or Applied model code into https://legacypic.uk/

Very nice car!
I used to have a 2000 and can't rule out it had been mapped before but certainly I didn't do anything and it was quick! Also very agile with the low weight. Going to a 300hp newage afterwards didn't seem overly impressive in comparison.
