Any advice on removing overspray ???
Afternoon all. So I had a scrape on plastic rear bumper. ( exact height of a supermarket trolley ) , managed to sand , fill , sand and was really smooth. Primed , sand , base coat sand , another base coat and then lacquer. It doesn’t look ideal but the worst thing is I managed to get lacquer above the bumper under the filler cap and it’s all hazy and rough. !!!! Aaarrrgghh tried rubbing alcohol but no good. I have got some 2000-6000 wet and dry but the thought of using it terrifies me. Any other ideas in what will remove it but keep all well under it ?
not easy to see. Believe it or not the bottom part has actually had two coats of lacquer but it looks horrible. The colour I think is ok just not glossy enough. Maybe crap lacquer. ? I will rub down and start again but cover the car and do the whole rear bit of bumper as there is also hard edges.

As for clear coat use some good brand in gloss -sonax or ask local paint shop what they would use.
Thanks for the advice , I will give that ago. Do you wipe with the upol ? I’m presuming not straight after as it would wipe the paint off ? Will the lacquer come off with wet sand say 2-3 k grit ?

2k is finishing grit ,it could take ages
So I rubbed it down with wet and dry after clay bar first. It wasn’t lacquer it was top coat as clay bar was grey. Removed most of it then I compounded it after wet and dry and it’s back thank god. Will attempt the bumper weekend.
A couple of things;
- a dry looking clearcoat can be down to a few things, but most likely it went on too dry which means it couldn't smooth out on the panel. You generally want to go for some drier coats to start with to build up the depth, and then finish with a 'wet' coat which is a sprayed on a little slower and closer. It's a fine line between getting it perfect and getting runs, especially with 1k cans, but worst comes to it you can sand out runs easily enough.
- if you've not used 2k lacquer then overspray will come off with thinners, or possibly even brake cleaner.
- don't use a hard masking line. Use soft edge masking, and you can do this with either the proper stuff or by folding the edge back on normal 2" tape, and stagger your edges - so if you're repairing say a 2" circle you'd spray your primer in a 4" circle and then sand down, then spray colour in a 6" circle, and then lacquer in an 8-10" circle which you can then polish back. You're never going to get the paint to match perfectly, and it's impossible to do so with a hard masking edge, so the feathering tricks the eye into believing it's the same colour.
Hopefully that helps you.

Thanks chaps. Am picking up a decent 2k lacquer today and a can of the 777hb blend in as they don’t stick upon 9 but reviews seem decent. Have masked off bumper quarter to any curves edges and sanded back with 1k paper then 2-4K wet and dry and it looks a good surface. Finders crossed.
What the hell is this stuff !! 777 blend in. I sprayed the colour on for a third coat and was looking really good. Gave it a last coat of colour and then sprayed the 777 on and it literally pulled paint off and dropped on floor !! Ruined everything so back to square on and off to get more Ollie today for one last try then it will be to body shop !
