Default Shaking on braking

Getting some shaking through the steering wheel on my 05 WRX wagon, seems more of the left front wheel.
Only when braking from speed.
I'm thinking wishbone bushes as the discs are pretty new by the looks and don't think it's had any bushes changed on the wishbones.
I had a JDM legacy and it was the doughnut bushes that were causing the shake,I got a garage to replace for poly ones and all was good
Main question is can I change the bushes myself.
Looking at pictures the WRX look a lot easier than the legacy that I got the garage to do.
I've changed front driveshaft before and turbo so not bad with a spanner.
Got jack's and lots of tools just no pry bars or long handled socket wrench.
Cheers

I have new metal drop links from years ago that I never fitted.
I'll try them.
What do you mean by not so easy to change......

Yeah all bushes can be replaced with basic tools,
Getting old rubber ones out was time consuming, just because the rubber binds up drills or blades ya use to remove them, then a basic hack saw is use to gently cut the old steel bush housing out, old chisel and hammer easily removes old shell once cut,
Buy 2 part bushes, dead easy to reassemble then, use as much grease on them you can.
Obviously do as many as you can and get it aligned with ya own settings.

As you mention discs are new, are the pads?
Its not just some material on the disc from the new brakes is it?

the Gen4 and newer Legacy uses a similar (horizontal) rear bush on the front wishbone as the later Hatsh, etc does and is a known issue BUT your new-age WRX doesn't use this style and in general whilst they may age they don't fail or cause the same symptoms.........
more likely its brake related, presuming everything is "tight"

As above I’d say more brake related. Even tho new looking it could be warped if a cheap disc was used and some spirited driving ! Also Jack the wheels and check the bearings. I once had a terrible shake on braking and it was the bearing / driveshaft / hub. Was fine other than under braking.

Well I've just found the issue......
I had 2 uprated front drop links but could only find 1 so held off taking the wheel off and seeing if I could see anything wrong with anything.
As I had the drop links I was going to change them 1st and see if that helped.
Finally found the 2nd one today so thought right let's do it.
I found that the left side drop link had separated from itself so changed that one but it didn't seem right as bolts looked new on an old drop link and when I tightened it up I snapped the bottom bolt but also didn't look right.
Noticed the alloy wishbone but didn't think anything of it.
Took a couple of photos so I could put on here too ask your opinions.
Went to do the other side and bingo someone has replaced the other wishbone to alloy instead of the steel original on the right side.
I've ordered an alloy version and will change over in the morning as driving up north tomorrow from London.
Who'd a guessed right🤔😯😂

Yes,looks like it.
Not by me.
Still getting some vibration on braking, mainly from 60mph to 40mph.
Car drives and feels superb though.
No vibration or pulling at any speed.
Handles great and feels very planted.

just a thought, the ball joint on both Steel and Ali arms is identical BUT the Ali arm requires a coned steel spacer sleeve over the ball joint so that it protects the ali arm
if this is missing it will all bolt up and look correct but is a potential fail point and may well be the shaking - as stated before highly unlikely a drop link can promote brake shudder

100%
But id be making them both alloy if honest, and a full geo check at least.

Yes thanks stockcar for your reply,it's what I'm looking for.
Cars had new suspension all round by the looks of it and handles brilliantly so must have had a geo setup when that was done.
What does the cone look like if I'm looking under the car.
I'll definitely look at getting another alloy wishbone though.

Just reading up on alloy wishbones, can I fit any new age one or do I need a classic version?
My car is a wagon and reading that it's the classic version I need otherwise newage saloon is wider.
Thanks

you potentially already have 2x differing lengths of arm fitted now, personally I would start again with a known "pair" and in reality makes no difference whether steel or Alloy in the scheme of things

I had a look and put my fingers in ball joint to see if cone was in there but not quite sure.
Does the top of cone stick out and can be seen visually or hidden....
