Classic - original clutch replacement - advice please ?
My Impreza is 24 years and 110k young and still on the original clutch. It's starting feeling heavier although it's not juddering any more from cold than it always has, unless feathered with the pedal.
If I'm going to plan to replace in the next few months, what should I replace it with and what other components ? What's the best for value and quality ?
It's a 00MY with Prodrive bits and sports cat so no more than 250bhp and I don't need any more.

Ok. I remember my first Legacy Turbo having a flywheel skim at Tileys but it didn't make any difference to setting off judder. Exedy makes sense as cost is fair as well from ICP.

Is your clutch actually worn or is it showing other issues , from owning a number of classics the accepted thing was a revy fairly hard launch to clear off the flywheel and that often cured the juddering , if it does not need changing any point in changing it ? , the bill is 400 £ or so for a basic clutch like an exege one , then cheap labour is around 400£ , but most likely higher labour charges , your decision your car , if it does need changing then you don't need to go too unrated clutch wise , the basic exige works well in my 340 bhp forester , I had a RTS clutch , it failed not through abuse , and they as they would not even engage with the garage that fitted it 👍😁
book time is longer than the actual job in our experience..........
With the replacement cost , well worth waiting till it needs doing , and when it starts slipping , the Mrs Fsti clutch has been worn for over a year and still going strong , the bite is quite high and it's on just over 110 k miles , but hopefully with yours an enthusiastic move off will help sort the judder issues 👍

Been upgrading for the last 4 to 5 years and it's become a bit of a hobby.
I went for a competition clutch kit and a 6.5kg flywheel. I did the stage 2 kit as engine mods were planned to increase hp a bit
It's been in 3 years now and all I can say is I should have done it earlier. the car was a bit juddery under 2k rpm. since a hybrid turbo and a remap from Mr Rawle the car is transformed again with pick up from low revs and no judder.
throttle response is so much better with the flywheel done.

From memory lightened flywheel was a risk of , shuddering , easier to stall , more noise and maybe a cel , I tend to fit a standard clutch on mine and not had any major issues , the only issue was a random failed clutch , not abuse related 👍
In 2016 I had an uprated RTS clutch (not sure if they're still making them) and a 6.5kg fiywheel fitted to my classic by Len at Subaru4You. Like SteveB it was in prep for a modest power upgrade: VF28 and a Bob Rawle remap (remapping on the Swindon dual carriageways has left an indelible memory!).
Anyhow, I digress, after 30k miles clutch and flywheel are still going strong. The only issue I had was getting used to the lighter clutch pedal, but once mastered I've not looked back. Much better in heavy traffic and revs rise quicker.

I had a lightened flywheel and helix organic clutch on my uk turbo and was the best mod I ever did. Just don’t go too light with the flywheel.
I have act hd and 7kg streetlite flywheel and it was a pig to move on 1st.
Did 1k miles on it and it just starts to behave better, closer to oem but still i do not like it when moving ,it revs better but falls of revs quicker to.
Pointless upgrade for 250 horses car tbh ,other story with 400 plus.
Maybe future proper map session on my car will sort it .
