Any reason why coolant temps may drop 10 degrees when you put your foot down, then rise back up straight away to normal operating temp when driving normally ?. Could it be a thermo issue ?. It’s a 08 hatch
I was thinking that myself mate. Was looking at the the rcm low temp thermostat. Heard good things about them at all buddy ?
I would rather go Subaru OEM than anything low temp, unless it was specifically a race car, and maybe not even then.
The oil temp would be affected by coolant temp, and you’d probably want the oil to be at working temperature so that it can evaporate any water vapour etc, and not sludge up.
Also the radiator and heater core matrix become more efficient the hotter they are, so there’s that too.

I always make sure the car is up too temp before I put my foot down anywhere mate. Just seems a bit odd. I’ll replace the thermo for a oem one incase it’s acting up

Forget about low temp stats they can cause all sorts of problems. If you have cooling issues a high flow stat is the best option to try first. Your original problem sounds like a failing stat. Two 10mm bolts job done

no problems with the coolant at all. I’ve had a headgasket go so I know what to look out for luckily. Sounds like a new icp thermo then for sure. Cheers buddy
