Im wanting to lower the STi a bit and make handling a bit tighter

As the STi already has fairly good suspension, would it be just as good installing these Whiteline lowering springs, or would there be a much greater improvement with these Tein Flex Z coiliovers?

Leave it alone far better areas to improve handling.

 

For me Tein on a soft setting , night and day on my Fsti , everything I own is on coilovers 😁👍

 

Lowering alters the roll centre, which then requires correction....extended ball joints . Slippery slope

 

I don’t lower the height too much an inch of so , one of the Fsti was actually raised , the Monaro and maloo kept at pretty well standard height , but again handling greatly improved , the gtr who ever did the set up on that was a plank 😂 it would not even clear a twig with out rubbing , that again was raised from where it was , but still lower than standard , and every time coilovers are fitted tracking etc adjusted 👍

 

I would only fit STi pink springs which are designed for the OEM dampers. Lots of aftermarket lowering springs either lower the car too much or are too soft for the amount of lowering they provide.
My FSTi with OEM shocks and STi pink springs handled the best and had great ride quality.

 

I'll never touch Whiteline again personally, I know this is a bit different but....
I installed an adjustable Whiteline rear ARB. It started rusting badly after just over a year.
Rubbish grey coating that comes off in huge chunks lol. Still ok I guess as in strength, but shocking quality and appearance as you look underneath.

Also fitted a front ARB from Whiteline, the one they listed for a 2007 Hawk STi. It carved two nice V grooves into my aluminium lower control arms (both sides), so went back to standard front ARB the next day.
The vibration as you can imagine was insane as it turns out - I didn't really notice it until I went back to standard, completely transformed the ride etc.

Where it was touching was pointed out to me several months later, I couldn't believe it, and by then I had binned my old standard one so had to buy a new one. I live and learn.
This was about 7 years ago, so their quality may well be better now, but after being bitten twice....no thanks.

Suspension very subjective , what one likes in ride quality or lack of it , another won’t , the best I’ve had were blitz zzr , they got the best ride quality and the best hanging but they are expensive , and i run too many cars to spend that on one as it won’t ever stop ££ 😂, I was looking for fresh suspension on the gtr , the good stuff is around 4 k , the cheapest bc br ones at 1 k , for the money you pay v handling for normal ish road driving , I think the Tein (not the basic ones as no adjustment ) are good and the next most decent are BC coilovers , I believe Perrin and white line are one of the same company ? and I agree with you on the rust side , when i did the coilovers I put the standard arb back on , the other fsti I was lucky as the previous owner had put a load of handling bits and bobs on , the funny thing the fsti 2 have tein one has bc , they all ride differently even if they are set up more or less the same 👍

 

Whiteline and Superpro are now owned by Zeider Co, although the latter are vastly superior. Tein Monosport were recommended to me, but if you're going to the cheaper end, Meister R are excellent.

 

Whiteline quality after 3 years. Roads are rarely salted in West Cornwall although it is a maritime environment

 

Not sure if true but I've read that the lower end products from the like of Tein and Meister are made in the same factory but with different specs.

I have Meister R GT1 on my Impreza and Evo. Well built, decent road holding and not harsh at all.

 

Glad I'm not the only one hedgecutter.
