Hi all after a down pipe with 200 sports cat on but don’t want the long one which replaces the 2nd cat because I’m putting that on for MOT.
ive currently got one on there from Gravity which is the longer style. Also is it possible to buy a pipe separately that goes from the 2nd cat to back box with 2.5’ fitting. I know it’s probably been asked before but looking for recommendations. Thanks.

 

might help if you put your exact age / model / etc as no idea what you are referring to by 'long' pipe ??

so 2.5 in that case which uses a slightly different 2piece downpipe as std compared to the earlier 2.0 WRX albeit its overall length is the same.........
if you got the Prodrive sports cat and 2nd de-cat off an earlier new-age 2.0STi that would swap in its entirety but not individual parts

not really sure why you would want (or need) to re-fit anything for MOT if the set-up works correctly??

 

Unfortunately my car failed it’s MOT with the spirts cat that’s on there, I’ve taken it to a few garages who have suggested putting oem parts on for the MOT. So I’m either going to get a Prodrive downpipe or japsoeed etc depending on pipe length and attach centre cat which I have, then I need centre pipe from 2nd cat to attach to back box. I’ve tried multiple times with sports cat attached making sure it’s Red hot etc but it doesn’t go through that’s why I’ve got a secondary cat now for the MOT.

 

something wrong with your mapping, sports cat or potentially engine / oil usage in that case I would suggest.........

new-age centre sections are all the same

 

That's not correct bud, I'm sure Hawkeye and late Blobeye models have a longer Centre pipe.

NOPE they don't if your looking at UK / Euro spec models only.........the earlier JDM cars use different exhaust sections

as I mentioned above its the Primary / Secondary cat pipe flange position which changes meaning that 2.0 Bug / Blob are NOT interchangeable with later 2.5 Hawk

 

The japspeed downpipe is a 200 cell , it’s not the best of cats but it passes mots , and it’s not that much £ , the other option is cut the old cat out and get a new cat welded into your current downpipe , having another cat after your downpipe cat , with a downpipe cat that’s either not working or have possible other engine issues seems a bit pointless , is the car in need of a remap after mods fitted ? a remap is maybe all it needs to pass , have you had the map checked or changed recently ? Did you get it re mapped when you put your sports downpipe cat on ? If it needs a map check but you don’t you can cause damage and it will not run as well so emissions could be worse 👍

 

Yes looking at euro/uk models. There different Centre pipes, not 100% sure on length. Hawkeye has a larger resonator.

I know the downpipe on the Hawkeye is different. So I'd the downpipe on a Hawkeye isn't longer than Bugeye Blobeye? As visually it looks longer.

the centre pipes look different because they are different styles BUT they are identical in terms of fitment when talking about std UK / EU single scroll cars / overall the 2piece catalyst downpipe is the SAME length regardless of new-age body style BUT the Hawk 2.5 cars use different flanges & lengths so the individual items don't swap

 

milltek comes with different lenghts

 

they aren't factory fitted.............

 

neither is prodrive or japspeed

 

and ultimately not really easily available and was always sold as a complete system for that reason...........

Yes i understand about hawkeye downpipe parts can't be swapped, but if you pulled a downpipe off a Blobeye lets say and swapped with hawkeye are you saying it would fit with no issues?
I always thought the Hawkeye one looked different length.

Also the centre pipe is interchangeable between Hawkeye and Blobeye?

 

the new-age 2piece down pipe complete will interchange BUT not the individual items.........
centre & rear are identical lengths albeit the style changes 2.0 / 2.5......

From a cost point of view, on the MY05 WRX PPP

Four years ago I did the 200 Cell Japspeed 3 inch and adapting that with a Mishimoto adapter to the rest of the original 2.5inch system ( Prodrive Rear Box )
I always pass the MOT ( once warmed up ). The advantage is you can keep the rest of the original still decent Prodrive system in place,
its a no welding solution that even after changing to a Harvey (decat) uppipe still passes MOT.

An added bonus was I was able to resell my original CAT to someone else who was trying to get his new purchase ostensibly "unmodified" but undeclared full decat Scooby through the MOT.
