If it’s just a trickle charger ?? it wont work , the trickle charger keeps a battery topped up and does not charge from flat , you will need a non trickle car charger to get it charged then put the trickle one on it , option two is jump start the car , get it fully charged and then stick the trickle one on it 👍

I love my CTek charger, press one button to set it to car battery charge mode and that's it.

I've had it 5 years and it's never missed a beat, it's only the small MXS 5.0 charger and conditioner.

Right, to put it short you cannot fully 100% charge a battery quickly. If you do you boil it (gas off) and that shortens the battery's life.

Long explanation:
Yes you can fast charge at about 20 to 30 amps to about 80% which will take about 3 to 4 hours for a 80Ah battery , but you won't get the last 20% without pumping up the charge voltage up to 15volts to force the battery to accept more current, and when do that it will cause it to gas and warp/erode the cells plated as a result. So good intelligent charges won't let you do it.

Intelligent chargers will limit the charge rate with low current and limits voltage below 14v to protect against gassing and to get all the cells equalised, otherwise one of the six cells can be overcharged and damaged whilst another is still requiring charge. This the difference between good chargers and dumb chargers and why they can revive and make batteries last longer...unfortunately the consequences is it takes longer to do the job.

As a rough guide: A 10amp charger into a 80Ah battery will take over 8hours from flat.

Be thankful: I have a Optimate that's about 2 amps and a 100Ah battery. I had a alarm fault (shorted siren battery) which totally drained the main battery. Took a whole weekend to charge it!

But it's a 17year old car on its second battery. And I still have the first one that I use jump starting and camping etc. So credit where credits due (Both the battery -Genuine VW Varta and the charger).

I have the same, it's superb at what it does for something so small, it reconditions the battery, recharges it, trickle charges it etc etc and iit's so easy to use.

Probably saved me a good few hundred quid in batteries with all the cars and motorbikes I have.

The only thing I've found with them is if you already have a dodgy battery with say, a duff cell, but it still starts the car. Rather than revive, they "can" finish off the battery entirely!

Seen it a few times over the years with different makes of chargers on different cars. On mine and my Cousin car it boiled the one cell totally dry. But they were really old batteries, just annoying to expect a groggy battery to be charged only to find it completely dead instead.

They are especially great for if your putting your car away over winter to keep the battery healthy with a trickle charge or if you have a car in storage like i do where you can take the battery off, bring it home and keep it optiumum then just take the battery back to your car to start it once a week etc.
