Default GC8 - not worth it anymore

GC8s no longer worth it ! ... value proposition so what else ?

I usually ride bikes but in my old age and before the govt bans / taxes fun ... I bought myself a Bob Rawle tuned Blobeye STi this summer for 12k ... absolute missile. Picked up a mini R53 for £1200 .. little wasp !

I fancy a good GC8 ... pref jdm - sti, type r, type ra .. but dont want to donate a kidney .... and no, I dont want to pay 5k for your leggy rotten 2000, plus fix the rust / engine / gear box and donate 20% VAT to the govt on top. Been looking a few months now

I have one garage space left ... BMW 330ci / hot hatch perhaps or just wait ?

Maybe time to adjust your expectations to the current market. There are looked after gf8s around at ok money.

I sold a relatives Skoda Fabia last month for more than I paid for it 6 years ago.

If you have a blobeye STI and a Mini Cooper S don’t you want your 3rd parking space to compliment those two; STI is the turbo, 4WD, 4 door. Mini is the hot hatch, I’d personally go with something like a Roadster/Convertible to compliment the others.

Don't laugh, but a looked after Chrysler Crossfire for not a lot of money. Far better to drive than you would think. If you are tall, more headroom in the soft top. Watch out for arch rust and check the electrics/ alarm.

Crossfire after Clarkson's comment ...it would be an open goal to your mates ..... every day .... their joy would be insufferable !
Rationale can never compete with immaturity :-)

I do like Alfa GTVs ... but previously told my son, owning an Alfa is motoring mental illness ... obviously, he can NEVER win !

I regret selling my Mr2 turbo 5 years ago ... only 4k ...... tbar Rev3, black, ferrari f40 wheels. Oh whyyyyyyyy ....
I sold a Porsche 996 to fund the Blobeye ... feels great --- like finally getting a useful Xmas present from the family !

The GC8s are simply iconic.
A few nice JDM cars popup near 10k .... but why always white :-(

Interestingly, the Japanese auctions are now a lot more than UK prices. The Aussies and the US 25 yr rule perhaps.
With GBP on its knees, I think the better JDM cars in the UK might be going abroad.

Hot hatch + advancing years, I always associate with Fred Wedlock's 'Oldest Swinger In Town', its not a good look, methinks.
Instead, why not go opposite direction if you've got spare cash, and get, say, a Morris 1000 convertible or a Triumph Herald, or even a 2CV.
Think 'less is more'....... 🤔

There are still good GC8s from around 7k - 11k. Decent EVOs start around 14k

The STIs, RA, Type R quickly shoot toward 20k++ .... still cheaper than P1s, Skylines, Supras , (deltas LOL)... all collector / investment territory. Low GBP, will go abroad.

Being open minded, cars to enjoy and daily .... decent C32 AMGs and BMW 330ci can be sub 5k .... same for Golt Gti & Focus ST3.

I wonder what the next generation is lusting after ... I'm told F&F like 350z .... friend sold me one very cheap .... everything nice but didn't excite so I flipped it and shared the profit.

I'm not even sure if Gen Z+ is even interested in cars and bikes, so what will be the future market .? ... also given net zero

We might be the last generation !
