Default TDO5 20G upgrade question Please

Hi one and all .

I am sure that this topic has been done to death , but I have a simple question please.

I am about to upgrade my BLOBEYE's turbo to the TDO5 20G and would like to know if the oil / water pipes / connectors and banjo bolts are the same size ? If not , what is the difference please.

I have seen some notes that state that if the car was fitted with a TDO4 , there will be minor mods needed and I am trying to find out what those mods are before I dive into buying parts.

My car is a 2004 WRX , but it has been fitted with the V7 EJ207 STi engine and the previous owner was bright enough to fit the TD04L from the WRX to the STi motor.
It has a TGV delete and a 76mm exhaust system fitted. Standard cat downpipe , which I am going to change as well to the 76mm bellmouth .

They never mapped the car after the engine swop. I am planning the 20G and downpipe and then the car will be mapped correctly by a well known local tuner.

Thank you in advance for any assistance.

Perhaps someone knows off hand of a link to a thread where this conversion has been done.

I know this does not answer your question, but you may want consider the risk of damaging your transmission. The pre-hawk WRX gear box may struggle with the torque from a TD05 20G.

Thanks for the tip. I am aware that there are some horror stories, but I do not launch the car , so hopefully the box will be okay.

I will more than likely only be running around 320 - 350 hp.

I am not going to go crazy with the car. I just want to get the power that the car should have.

That's a big turbo for that power, a smaller TD0 16g / 18g I bet would give you 320 to 350 bhp and spool much quicker. A cheaper option would be the VF35 off the STi and you can pick these up for about £300.

Long time ago when I fitted one but I'm sure everything fits like for like.
You should definitely fit some sti pink injectors and a walbro 255 while you're at it to get the most from it.

As already mentioned, your gearbox is going to break, doesn't matter if you don't launch it.

Having had a genuine td05-20g back in the day, I would recommend against it at this kind of power level. It’s just going to be so much laggier than what you have on at the moment, and it’s too big a turbo to be optimal for the power level you are aiming for (in my opinion at least).

if you want to go for a td05 type turbo, then maybe a billet td05-16g would be better? Should still make those numbers, but also spool a bit quicker.

Regarding the oil feed, you might be able to bodge the oem td04 line by bending it slightly, but if not Kinugawa turbo on ebay (and others) make a braided line kit that works OK (again in my opinion).

The return, unless you get it with the turbo, is also a different bolt pattern if I recall correctly.

Can I also recommend a Harvey Smith trick up-pipe, now available from AS Performance, to help with spool and lag.

If you're looking for that sort of power level go for a vf35 or vf34. Plus Harvey Smith trick up pipe. A very quick road car.
