My car is due to be serviced soon so with having all the fluids changed it would be a good time to change the stock oil pick up pipe and to add a baffle plate while i'm there, the 2 that seem to be the most common options available as aftermarket replacements are the RCM one and the other is by Killer B, so what have people fitted to their cars ? I'm leaning towards the Killer B one for a few reasons, the pick up pipe is a 3 leg design rather than 2 on the RCM one, also i watched a video on it and the grade of steel used looks thicker and looks solid, obviously the brand RCM speaks for itself so its a decision to make.

Ive got the rcm baffe plate and the rcm baffled sump.
Oil control is a good place to spend big imho. You can always use the return to sump catch can system due to 2 holes in the sump, of course you can with 1 hole but its a pain in the but on oil changes.

 

I've got a full service booked for a couple of weeks time, all the fluids, plugs and filters are being changed so it would be a good time to sort out the oil side of things with it being completely drained. I'll be getting a catch can fitted, probably the RCM Track attack one which people have been recommending, so it would make sense to get a baffle fitted in the sump and the pickup pipe changed to a better one, that's my thinking at the min. It's to tie in with some mods that i'll be having fitted around January, a new turbo and uprated injectors and bigger induction, if i do the oil side of things now it should hopefully be a good grounding for the other things and the engine in general.

 

That baffle plate doesnt stop oil getting into the rest of the engine by its self thats why i got the rcm sump as well.

Fuji Racing (ICP) also have options available. Haven't fitted them yet but I have a baffle plate, windage tray and pickup pipe from them ready to fit to my engine and they look nice quality items. The pickup is a bit of cross between the RCM and Killer B having 3 legs but also the rubber dampener thingy.

 

Thanks, i've got a long way to go with it to make it my own car as a lot of the things on the car the previous owner did. It will need a paint refresh at some point because as you know the stock paint is very thin and weak, for now i want to focus on getting all the serviceable things right and changed like the oil, plugs, filters and coolant etc so i know what's in the car and i have a base to work from, Bob has already mapped the car which i'm very happy with, he did a very good job. It's the perfect time for me to get an oil catch can fitted, upgraded baffle in the sump and pickup pipe as well while the oil is coming out. I'd like an upgraded sump too but you have to draw the line somewhere otherwise you'll just get carried away lol, maybe at some point.

Have you asked your chosen specialist if they will remove the sump with the engine in situ? Many won't.

 

Not yet, ive sent them an email asking if this can be added to my service but i've not spoke with them directly as yet.

I used the Killer B pick up and windage tray on the twinscroll Hawkeye, impressed with the quality.
Position 1 Race & Performance Equipment did it for me whilst doing group n engine mounts.

 

I have the Killer B pickup, windage tray and sump baffle on my 560bhp/600lbft STI. Haven’t done any track days yet and logged oil pressure to see how well they are performing though as it’s a new build.

 

in general the KillerB stuff whilst reasonably well made isn't actually fully baffled in comparison to a pukka grpN type sump or whatever.........

IMO the baffle plates are simply sticking plasters and do little to help oil control around the pick-up
