Looking for suggestions in replacing the standard H4 bulbs in the blobeye headlight. I've seen the LED type on eBay but do these actually fit in the space between the cover? Or alternatively any H4 with a lighting improvement?

 

I've recently been through 3 different well known brands on my blob though H1 fitment. For brightness go for Osram etc 150% ones. Just dont expect them to be "white" which is what I was trying to achieve. I got Ring ones that were pretty white but output was poor. They all make claims that are utter lies.
I've a set of LED ones on the way. Bought off Facebook as I asked him for actual pictures of the output. Quite alot on ebay if u read the feedback weren't bright enough to use as headlights.
They will be a tight fit behind the dust cover and they may not fit at all. The beam pattern is also a concern but they cant be any more blinding than most modern headlights.

 

Ring Alyn at AS Performance he has the new PIAA led H4's He has tested them himself and are supposed to be excellent. There not cheap though.

 

What about the Philips 130%. Might be closer to the colour you're after. Don't go for the 150% version because they are the same bulb just pushed harder than they should be so don't last long at all

 

I had Ring 5000 kelvin , should be white, were yellow. Got 80w Ring 4000k ones, they were whiter even though a lower K rating ! But pretty dull.
it seems with halogen that the whiter they are, the poorer to light output. But I'm down £60 at this point so if LED dont work I give up.

 

I just ordered the Phillips racing-vision 150%+ before I read this! Oh well I'm sure they will suffice for now but I am still curious if there is better..?

Brightness as colour is not really an issue.

So it turns out I bought H4 and what wanted was H1. Is that correct as the lights on my car were fitted with some dodgy xenon bulbs which I've binned. But I seem to have two connectors and H1 bulbs only have the one??? Someone confirm what I actually need or need to do with regard to the wiring??

my H1 bulbs has one red lead onto a single pin on the bulb. The black lead is onto the lampholder.

I gave LED headlight bulbs a go today, H1 fitment.
only issue I had was the dust cover is a 1/4inch away from closing.
Beam pattern doesn't look too bad, and at 20 paces I didn't see any dazzling to note.

I'll put the other one in tomorrow and see what they look like brightness wise.

 

They look good and output looks ok?

But no cover means condensation will appear surely?

 

Dont think so, there's already a hole in it where the wires go through. Even if u look at your pic theres really only the hole where the bulb goes into that section of the headlight. . . . I think

 

True, I'm too familiar with the moisture had this problem with a couple of mercs. Put a link up for the ones you bought.

Plug n play or need re-wiring?

 

plug and play, though I couldn't get my negative connection off the lampholder so made up a wee fly lead with a eyelet crimp on one end, and a spade crimp on the other. Put a lamp holder screw through the eyelet one and the bulb negative into the spade one
