If yes, which plug should I use. Can get NGK here in Switzerland, but HKS would be VERY expensive.

Dutch guys: What do you use?

Are there any gains or is it just for security?

thanks for any information

Ric,

I would certainly change the plugs, and go to a colder version. NGK PFR7B. I'd also close the gap to about .7mm.

Don't listen to Mark, what you really need is the ... erm ... NGK PFR7B

(as I mailed you, that's what we use in Holland/Belgium for the VF23/Unichip setup)

Wink

I third the NGK PFR7B...even though Theo is well know for his habit of spreading bollox - yes even way up north here in turnipland - I'll have to agree with him here.

Thumbs up

Thanks for your answers guys!

Mark - why should we close the gap to 0.7mm?

I understand that we need cooler running plugs, as our engine gets hotter, but why change the gap?

Richard - yep - will order 3 sets (for all swiss VF23 racers hehe :-)

Ric,

When you start to run more boost, it's not uncommom for the spark to get "blown out". By closing the gap, it gives a stronger spark.

IIRC, they reckon on closing the gap by .1mm per 50bhp increase, but it seems that the NGK's work well at .7mm.

ric,

First of all: In my opinion the plugs of EVERY Subaru Turbo should be replaced at about 50.000 km! I know lots of them who had plug related problems at about 60.000 - 70.000 km.

The NGK PFR 7 B is a very good choice if you have a car with a lot of HP. We also adjust the gap to 0.7 mm.

The gap can be closed by tapping the mass electrode to for example a hammer. Be very carefull! You can better do it in 5 steps rather than to overdoo it the first time. You can easily ruin your (EXPENSIVE!) new plugs.

The next thing to be very carefull is to check the gap, don't use ANY pressure to put the "Fuehlerlehre" (excuse me but I didn't know the English translation for that one, Ric will understand that one because it's the german translation) between the electrodes because that can ruin the plug also.

Good luck! (or find someone who wants to do the job for you and you can blaim if things go wrong! )

Mark.
