Default Impreza gx 2.0 headlights to sti projector headlights

Hi guys, i don’t know if there is already a thread regarding this subject so bear with me. I have a bugeye 2.0 gx. I was trying to change my headlamps with the projector ones (ICHIKOH non hid), i think it is for STI? We’ll i was so naive to think that i can plug and play it, obviously, i was wrong. It has different connectors. So, my question is, how do i convert it, what do i need? Is it possible? Or simple? Thanks!

Your starter for ten, Headlight bulbs/wiring

Standard Bugeye headlights using H4 twin element bulbs

STI uses separate HB3 and H1 bulbs?

So does that mean, it’s not possible? Or too complicated? Thanks

Most people used to fit morrettes which came with their own difficulties.

your current setup

your hopeful setup - the various HB3/H1 plugs/sockets required all appear available on ebay.

Thank you again for your response Don Clark. I just want to know if it easy and possible, then i’ll do my own research on the details. But if you have any info on how exactly its done and the exact items needed, i would appreciate it if you can share it with me. Cheers lad! Thanks!

It's as "easy and possible" as making up an adaptor loom for each light similar to these.

This is for converting US bugeye headlights to the non HID STI bugeye lights. The only difference to what you would require is that the US car has an OEM HB5/9007 twin filament headlight bulb and the UK uses an OEM H4 twin filament bulb so a different "blue plug" is required to suit.
HB5/9007 adaptor plug as shown

H4 adapter plug required in it's place

The pink connectors are for the H1 feed and earth and the Yellow for the HB3 bulb

Lightwerkz in the US make up these conversion looms for various setups but as I have said the Blue plug is designed for the US not UK OEM bulb connector.

All you would have to do then is to make sure the side light and indicator fit.

I converted WRX Bug lights to STi projectors, albeit with HID and the low beam lights needed a separate earth, otherwise they would turn off like yours. I don't believe that the GX/WRX loom provides an earth from the standard connectors.

You seem to have wired them up so that the two new bulbs act as if they were the original twin element bulb as per the first diagram - Main beam on /low beam off

To duplicate the layout of the second diagram where both lights stay on AND retain the OEM wiring/bulb socket should you need to revert back, the wire for the low beam bulb that goes to the 3 pin connector below that now fits into the original bulb socket with the Yellow/blue (YL) wire on the main loom side should be cut and earthed separately for each side. (Leaving just two wires connected to the connector below)

And @Don Clark , im using different colors of wires, so can you instruct me using the same colors? From the 3prong (h4) connector, and from stock wiring, 1pin is for the ground(black), 1pin is for low beam(red) and 1pin is for high beam(blue). Can you tell me where i should connect each wires? Lol sorry. That’s what i call, layman LOL and thanks

Unfortunately you don't say which actual pin is what colour.

However to avoid the colours I have used numbers for the pins on the H4 plug

For thre H1 bulb the earth connection should be to the bulb holder spade not the bulb supply spade.
