I finally got the track car on the rollers to see what the figures were, giving me an idea of what to do next, I’m doing sls next year which is based on power to weight. So depending on how much power I go for that will determine what class I’ll be in.

The car made 319bhp/325lbs-ft @ 0.85bar. I thought the car had been mapped @ 1bar. Not that it matters.

Now depending on transmission losses as it’s based on whp I’m guessing that has me @ 193whp/ton.....roughly. That’s class D, I could try and make it 205whp/ton and still be in class D but it depends on what figures I could potentially achieve with the current set up.

It’s a fully built 2.5 with 2.0 heads. It doesn’t have closed deck inserts, Garrett gt30 turbo. 3 port boost solenoid, but std map sensor.

First job is to fit a spec c map sensor or similar, maybe even a Perrin map sensor then get it mapped.

What sort of figures would I see @ 1.2bar/1.4bar/1.6bar??

Class c is 210-270whp/ton and tbh it looks more than likely that’s where I’ll end up.

Stock map sensor will see 1.6 bar, which is as far as you'd want to push an unpinned/inserted 2.5 block.

Expectant power will depend on which GT30 it is (70 or 76?), exhaust system, intercooler etc.

No point guessing, you know more about the car than any of us so just work with your mapper/tuner to achieve whatever the bhp/tonne you're looking for.

 

Not sure what turbo it is, as far as I’m aware it’s a hybrid gt30 from aet, fmic, rcm headers, full decat, 3.5” turbo back.

I’m just asking what power people think it will make @ the above boost levels going on it making 319 @ 0.85bar. Maybe folk with similar setups can help.

Differences being what? I’m presuming at the very least it’ll be he original V7 avcs heads but if it were the later blobeye heads I wouldn’t know what difference that would make.

 

3.5" exhaust system??

AVCS or Non-avcs heads? JDM or UK heads?

 

you'd see a big difference in the JDM heads over the UK ones - good bit more flow to be had meaning your turbo can force more air into the engine and you get more ponies as a result.

is it possible the car was mapped for 1 bar but the ambient/intake temps on the dyno were a little high and the ECU has been programmed to compensate by reducing the boost levels?

I'd be guessing based on the above that a solid 400+ would be had at 1.6 bar, but depending on the 2.5 bottom end it wont last all that long. I'd be inclined to go for around 1.4bar and then run the car to compete whilst saving up for the deck inserts and 14mm studs if you don't already have them in place but there's a lot to consider which hasn't beeen mentioned above so you'd be best sitting down with your mapper to discuss the way forward.

 

430 bhp I reckon @ 1.6 bar !! I've ran my classic rb5 ( 2.5 semi , forged ) on 2.o wrx heads and cams @ 436 @ 1.6 bar .

 

you need to speak to your mapper. Go through why only .85bar of boost, and your options to get where you want.

Find out what map sensor you have aswell.

Depending what your map sensor is depends on its limit, i recently swapped my standard map sensor before mapping, as the standard sensor (I cant remember the exact figure it is set to, lets say 1.8 bar) doesnt include the atmospheric pressure, once you have taken away your particular environments atmospheric pressure which is usually about 1bar you are left with .8 to play with. Thats why people upgrade to a 3bar map sensor, subtract the 1bar and you have 2 to play with.

std map sensor and ecu - sorry I'm being dense, does it say somewhere what car you have? different models/years will have different equipment as standard just.

if it's a blob/bug WRX ecu then it can't run the AVCS heads, if it's an STI ecu then happy days.

All should be on the same MAP sensor though which should read 1.6bar and still have some room for fuel cut tho for competition use I'd go for the 3bar or 3.5bar map sensor (as above map is manifold absolute pressure so you lose 1 bar in the max reading as we are walking around in 1 bar of atmospheric pressure right now).
