6 speed differences
Good morning all,
I've been browsing the previous threads on this but cannot seem to find a definitive answer..
6 speed DCCD boxes.
The differences between Blob and Hawk. Is this just longer gearing in the Hawk? Are they both good for big power builds (as strong as each other) and which would be preferred? Would a Hawk box allow for more spool as the length is better?
I'm confusing myself so if anyone has any experience please help!
Thanks in advance
Rob

the newer boxes had a few bits done to improve them but i’m not sure exactly what , but both are tough , the jdm one is shorter ratios and more likely to be better suited to 2 litre engine , the longer ratio 6 speed due to more torque in a 2.5 are better suited to that plus longer ratios better fuel economy , the rear diff needs to match ratio wise the box fitted
Also dont forget hawk box's are design for use on 2.5 so ratios are setup as such.

Or diff between empty and full tank,
Would be interesting to see if anyone ever did the swap only and compared times,
Usually done when modding for power
Would be interesting to see back to back testing with only those parts swapped,
We not talking like an extra passenger ?

Id expect it to be slower over the quarter if there was no power gain but would be interesting to see real testing results,
yeah in hindsight perhaps i should have got some testing done, ah well, bit late now (not only is it already changed, cars now been broken anyway).
what i can tell you is it went like **** hahaha
one interesting note is it pulled alot hard in 3rd than it did in 2nd, turbo couldn;t keep up with the revs.

Doesn't make full boost till 3rd gear,
1st & 2nd its revving faster than build boost,
Not the only one with this too i read its common with larger turbos on 6 speed
When i changed it i had a pretty in depth discussion with Pat H about the very subject and best route to go. Hawk UK sti box is a perfect fit for the 2.5 low down grunt.
Unless your running mega power you cross line in 4th eh ?
My blob is in between 4/5th crossing line 12.7@110mph with room for improvement as always haha
On another note. I also played around with tyre sizes. You can go up or down a size in tyre to change the final drive ratio. I've used 215/45/18 and dropping to 215/40/18 made a noticeable difference on the road. Drag racing: would be an easy mod to give a few more mph if running out of revs across the line.

Ive just replaced my 04 non dccd 6 speed for an 07 dccd box and find it much better suited. The car dosnt feel as aggressive now with the longer ratios as your not going through the box as quick but its much better suited if you have plenty of torque on tap.

For a big power build the uk hawkeye box is the one to have. longer ratios and will top out at over 200 mph if you have enough power to get there.

Would that be a 7k limiter at 130 in 4th
If so then 8k would be even more

I havnt been on the strip since fitting my new box but going by other members results 7800 rpm = 135 mph
