Hi,

I went to PE on saturday and it transpired that I needed a new MAF sensor, which I have replace (thanks Merc + Chris). Anyway, one thing came to mind as something that may be useful, please correct me if I'm wrong and am talking complete b0ll0cks.

Anyway... would it be possible to make something (perhaps something as simple as a warning light or LED digit panel) to indicate if the car is running lean or indicate the mixture content? If so could it be done as a pass-through plug/socket that plugs into the MAF sensor with the original cars loom plugging into the device?

i.e.

MAF
|====| D L
| ||||##
| ||||##------------------
| ||||##
|====| |
|
|------- Display

Where MAF is the sensor, D is the device pass-through plug and L is the original car wire. What do you reckon, is it possible as it's a bit worrying that the MAF can fail etc.

ta,
Matt

Sounds good You would need some way of activating it only on high load though.
When the engine is idling/cruising the fuel is controlled in closed loop and the mixture hunts up and down the O2 sensor range.
Alarm on high EGT may be more workable ??

What you're suggesting will only monitor for MAF problems - monitoring the lambda output will alert you to any problem causing fuelling issues.

Once you get the feel for the lambda under-reading when hot, then it's a very good reference point.

You can use DeltaDash to achieve the same on my99->, but the it's periodic checks only. Advantage is that you can check a hell of a lot more with DD!
