Need to decide on a clutch asap as my new 2.1 goes in this week. Apart from the obvious cost difference what are the pros and cons of both clutches? Heard a few grumbles about the act, is it something I should take seriously?

I know the twin plates are good but it's quite a hefty price increase so curious as to how it compares.

 

Both are good IMO, the act I've read is to get it with organic plate for better suitability for dd,
But tbh if my cc clutch is juiced then I'll take the leap to act.

 

Bear in mind twin plate can be a sod around town, a lot more on / off than single plate options.

 

I thought the exedy twin plate was supposed to be ok for dd? Is that not the case?

 

The Exedy twin plate drives fine on a everyday car,but like any uprated clutch you have to get use to the feel of it,but their is not much between a Exedy twinplate and a pink box Exedy in everyday use.SJ.

 

Any experience of the act in comparison?

 

In all honesty the one on my cousins evo Felt stiff,it could hold the power aprox 430bhp on his car well,but I personally prefer the Exedy.SJ.

 

Went for the twin plate for an element of future proofing in the end.

Great when the car is moving, but i used to dread traffic and hill starts

 

Used both prefer the exedy but both hold power fine and the ACT is a lot cheaper in comparison

 

Went for the twin plate, drove it for the first time and not impressed with its round town driving, it pissed me off in all honesty as I was expecting something a little more forgiving.

 

Do some leg training.In all honesty mate once you get use to it you will be fine,its just the pressure and stiffness that bothers first time uses of these types of clutches,but the more you drive with it,the feel/function will start to normalize.SJ.

 

they bed in over the first 500miles or so and in general are lighter to use (pedal pressure wise) than the single plate ACT's........

 

Do you get much noise from the exedy?

 

Spent another day with it and have eased to it a little. Seems to be improving or I'm getting used to it.

It's not as noisey as some I've heard but just a light jangling when clutch is depressed that's all.

 

I hope so. Running the new motor in atm so it doesn't help not being able to use it in anger.
