Anyone else notice this? - Is there any way of getting it to stop once it has occured? (without having to stop or slow down to 30mph or open and shut door at '70' mph )

Mine actually gets *better* if I open and close it - but it's still pretty bloody bad!

Mine gets better if I open and close the window as well.

Seems to be a 'scooby problem' one of those things that you just live with

I used to have a MR2 (frameless windows) and NEVER had this problem.

 

Mine starts at about 80 with a slight whistling sound and gets worse. At 160 it could blow your taupe off if you had one on!!(not sure of the spelling there) Mt door seal rubber seams to have slightly worn(drivers side only) and the window dosn't sit in it properly compared to the passengers.Going to have a go at adjusting the door up slightly before attempting to buy a door rubber (typeR 2 door)that'll be fun i guess. Has anyone actually cured the problem?

Well I'm prepared to accept "suction windows", 'cause I think they look very cool!

 

Sorry, I don't know if people have mis-understood my comment.

My windows are fine unless I open them at high speed. It is only when closing them still at high speed that the noise will ocurr. I don't know if a seal gets folded the wrong way by high pressure air as the glass gets close to the rubber or something ?

I get this too.

It's a "feature" of the car.

I wouldn't recommend opening and closing the door at 70mph though.

Apart from the obvious safety issue, the window stop tab (located about halfway up the front door frames) can foul the glass forcing a 1/2 inch <I>horizontal</I> gap between the window and the rubber seal.
Makes a nasty bang

had the same problem on my RB5,absolutely c*** ,drove me mental,until my brother suggested the window seals were too dry ,needed some lube... Mr sheen worked, so too would wipeing with WD40!

Alternatively,but more drastically if there is some movement, in and out,on your window when open,remove door lineing and tighten up window locator screws within.

I got some ruber lube stuff from halfords.

I wasnt expensive and is in a yellowy spray can. Its a bit messy tho, so I found best way is to spay loads onto a duster, then go round all the seals. It preserves the rubber too, which cant be a bad thing.

May need to add a small amount to the edge of the glass too, so that when you close the window it slips over the rubber soothly

 

When closing then push it out with your elbow.... works every time...

Had the same problem -almost feel embarrassed to say my Mum fixed it!!

She gave me a can of silicone lube spray that she uses to make curtains run easily on their tracks.

Sprayed all four window seals - worked a treat - polishes your dash too, just be careful not to get it on the steering wheel!

ok, that's that problem, solved then...

Rich S, that is noisy when it hits that retainer clip.. first tinme mine did it I thought I was going to lose the window..

opening the window fully and then closing gives me a noise but if its making the noise and i open the window the tiniest amount and then close it, it seals fine!

 

No Problem with mine, right up to 140-ish!

 

Closed mine at about 120ish once, caught the tab and boy does it make a noise Not recommended

 

I had this problem as well on my RB5. I took it back to the dealer a short while ago who replaced the door seal (under warranty) and I've had no problems since.

This is has been a widely reported problem on Audi TT's as well - apparently a lot of the problems have been traced to people closing the door using the window rather than the actual metal door. Over time this will push the window out of alignment leading to the seal breaking (I assume then, that any frameless door could have this problem). I did have a chat to my dealer about this and he did say that they can make some adjustment to the window glass, so it is definitely worth speaking to them if some of the suggestions above don't work.

Cant you just switch on the ac and not open the windows? Then you wont have the problem.

Whoops - forgot, Mk1 shape cars dont come with ac as standard!!!!!!!

It's a frameless windows thing.

My Elise has exactly the same, except I get wet if it's raining and I try to raise the glass. You HAVE to open the door to raise it fully, othwise a small gap remains between the top edge and the roof and the rain gets in!
