Changed the gearbox/front diff oil today all went OK drove the front up onto ramps and cranked the 2 drain plugs and let drain for 30mins. Rolled the car back off the ramps and put 3.5 litres of oil into dipstick hole and now it's reading over the full mark?
Im sure on a oil change the gearbox holds more than 3.5 litres sure it was something like 4.1 litres??
Any way went on to do the rear diff and I can not get the filler plug to budge!! I've let it soak over night tried a 24" breaker bar tried heating up the diff case with blow torch tried an impact gun tried the car jack method. It is solid so I'm guessing I'm going to have to get a garage to loosen it? The drain plug cranked loose but I obviously haven't drained the oil yet.
Any one know of any other way off getting this filler plug undone!?

If you have tried a breaker bar and heat and its still not moving theres something wrong.

 

Yeah put heat on it and used a breaker bar. Space is quite restricted with car on ramps so it's hard to get a good lever on the bar.

 

Please do not take this the wrong way but i take it you are trying to loosen and not tighten the filler plug.

 

Yes definitely loosening it unless it's a lefthand thread.

 

are you using a penetrating oil or WD40?

 

The way I usually do mine in on the ground, use multiple extension bars supported by a couple of trolley jacks or axle stands, you could even use blocks of wood. Get the extensions clear of the rear bumper then big breaker bar on it. Worked every time for me.

 

Yeah ordinary wd-40 and even got some penetrating wd-40 today. Will have another go tomorrow.

 

try loctite freeze release, best release agent ive ever used

 

car on drive on ramps, small T bar with correct fitting plug socket and trolley jack, jack to the right and T bar that way, use the weight of the car to undo the plug, simples.
