Lake District - Must see/do road recommendations?
Hi all,
I'm going to be heading up to the Lake District in a couple of weeks in the scooby and was wondering if anyone knew of any 'must see' roads while I was there?

Winderemere upto Keswick, about a 20-25 minuite drive but half way up theres a pull in point where you can look down to one of the lakes with a waterfall. Also may i suggest visiting the motor museum which isnt far from windermere!

I'd forgotten how windy it can get on the tops when I was up there last

Awesome, thanks for the tips guys
I think I have found a route from Kirkstone Pass, to Hardknott Pass, then up and round to Honistor Pass. Apparently it's about 110 miles and will take around 4 hours! should be a fun drive!
Now all I need to do is plan where to stop....

Now all I need to do is plan where to stop....Done 78 peaks this year so far and have been laid up with a bust ankle for the last month. I'm itching to get back up there!!
Hartside up into alston.
Turn 2nd right for nenthead.
fly along there to Wearhead past burnhope reservoir,
drop into middleton in teesdale then onto brough,
gentle run to tebay 3 exit on the roundabout head for orton,
come into the village split left after the first farm,
keep going then come out of the village follow the road 90 right up to shap summit, turn left down to the a6 then turn right into shap village, quick pitstop at the chippy, carry on after 500 yards split left signposted hawswater/bampton that will keep you busy for a while all off the tourist trail and some very fast twisty sections to keep you occupied.

Gussy that sounds about right, good old days
As nice as the Passes are, i find them better for views rather than driving roads. Kirkstone is maybe my favourite if you can catch it when quiet. Whenever I went for a blast I stayed away from the tourist locations (Windermere, Ambleside etc) as no matter when you go, you'll find traffic.
The route suggested by Rob sounds a good one.

If you want to do any hiking and fancy some routes, just shout, I'm up there three times a week on a good week.

Ulswater steamer is a must if you get a chance, as for scawfell its a good hike, driving up through wasdale alongside the lake is a must very wild and you can then say you have been up the highest mountain past the deepest lake and the smallest church which are all there in the valley plus when you get back down from scawfell there is the pub at the bottom wasdale head hotel you will need a few pints after that
