Question Engine noise? Whirring? 2001 Bug WRX

Alright guys

I have a 2001 Bug WRX.

I've recently noticed i've got some whirring noises coming from the car.
It happens when i let the car slow down just under 60mph for a couple of seconds - then it goes away.

But now it's started doing it around the 30mph mark too.

And if i have it in first and let off the whirring is really loud.

I don't have a clue what it could be?

If anyone has any ideas, it would be much appreciated

Thanks

Nope. It sounds normal on idle. It's strange, i've never experienced it before - in any car

Thrust bearing on clutch?
Does it stop when you put your foot on the clutch?
I had whirring but it was constant.
Turned out to be water pump.

Well i've not long had the clutch upgraded to a stage 2 pink box.
Had it done at a reputable garage so i'd assume the thrust bearing wouldn't be an issue to be honest?
I don't know why the water pump would be the cause, as like you said, it was constant.
My noise is not. And only when in 1st and i dip the clutch it stops - but only slightly until i bring the car to a complete stop

Was the noise there before you had the clutch done?

Then if it was ok before the clutch, why not take it back to the garage and explain to them the problem, and see if they do the decent thing and sort it

Yeah it's a Exedy clutch mate.

And i think i'm going to have to. I don't understand what the hell is wrong with it...
Thing is, it drives fine - just apart from the whirring ¬__¬

Both my classic and Blob when fitted with Exedy clutches started whirring. mainly on the overrun when slowing down.
I asked David at API about it and he said that its the springs on the clutch and nothing to worry about, quite common.
This was years ago and nothings happened since.

What alternative clutch would people recommend for 300-350bhp on a newage car instead of an exedy pink box? Preferably similarly priced too....

Thanks for that Reef.

Did the sound ever disappear over time? Or did it stay?

Yes, it did get quieter over time. I could still hear it but when I asked passengers they didn't notice it and when I sold my classic the new owner didn't mention it. It just added to the orchestra of strange noise's that a Impreza makes

I would buy another Exedy clutch without thinking twice.
